To be very pissed off my period has come on when I thought I had seen the last of them and in the menopause

My husband can’t understand why I’m taking it so bad. I truly believed my periods were finished having not had any for a few months. But today. Back with a vengeance. Super heavy. Feel drained and bloated and just want to lie down with a blankie. No chance of that as work is crazy busy. Im 51 and have had my period for 40 years. I started at 11. 28 day cycle like clockwork until a few months ago. Over 500 periods! That’s enough for any woman! x

Agreed! I had the same - I'd been a year without a period and then got one last week. Urghhh, no desire at all for them to start up again. Hopefully it was a blip.

Mrsjayy · 15/09/2021 20:34

Oh no don't say that I've not had a period for 5ish months I'm 50. I'm sorry that's happened to you I'd be pissed off too !

PurpleEchoLamp · 15/09/2021 20:35

I feel your pain! I went from January to July last year with no periods, thought they were all over, then BAM I get the mother of all periods, massive boobs and suddenly up a dress size! Since then I've steadily lost my mojo a little more with each random period. Sometimes I go a month without, sometimes three. I just wish it would all bugger off!! Even my new huge breasts!

Mrsjayy · 15/09/2021 20:36

We never catch a break do we.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/09/2021 20:36

I had that a few months back. Nothing for about 8 months and then the heaviest one ever, like nothing that I'd ever experienced before and it completely floored me. Sadly they've been back again every month since, reasonably regularly, apart from after I had the covid jabs.

LizzieSiddal · 15/09/2021 20:37

Flowers it’s awful when that happens and I completely understand how you feel. I didn’t have a period for 11 months then had a very heavy one. I sobbed!

Your dh needs to try a bit harder to understand how blooming awful periods can be. Make him wait in you hand and foot, you need a hot water bottle, a blanket and some chocolate.

Orla1970 · 15/09/2021 20:38

That’s interesting as I’m literally bursting out my bra the last few days! It is a total drag though husband obviously realised I was actually feeling shit. He has just came in with a pile of magazines, chocolate, tampons and painkillers. Lol x

I understand you completely. I was having v heavy periods at 49 and went on the mini pill back to back, no periods now at 51 but im scared to stop taking it, if my experiment and miss one or two i get a period starting. So over periods now. Be gone!!

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/09/2021 20:39

@valerianroot if you’ve gone for a year without a period and then have one, you need to see a doctor and get it checked out. You should be referred to the hospital for a hysteroscopy.

Orla1970 · 15/09/2021 20:39

He is pretty good he just couldn’t understand why I was taking it so badly given I’ve had them for 40 years. Lol. Yes but I wanted them to be gone for good. Such a drag x

I hear you. Similar story, 40 years of regular periods and the last few years have been an unpredictable mess of stomach aches, clots and oh so heavy ( I can fill a moon cup in under an hour )

I’m 54 and still get a full on heavy bleed every 2 months and then the fucker lasts for 14 days.

In the uk the average age is supposed to be 51, so that means your last period was at 50 and a full twelve months has had to go by.

I hate it. I can’t predict it anymore, it’s difficult to plan around as I can barely leave the house on day 1 and 2.

I just want it to stop

Orla1970 · 15/09/2021 20:43

You’ve now got me thinking. Maybe I thought it was menopause but it was actually COVID vacs. I’m double vacced and it’s really since after those that my period stopped. My mums just off the phone and cheerfully advised me no way will my period stop for a good few years. She had regular periods until she was 60 as did my aunts. Ffs. Doomed! x

Yeah, my COVID vax messed me up too Angry

Oh you poor thing. 14 days would floor me. I usually last 3-4 days and seem to go from one period being really heavy but less pain to terrible pain but not too heavy. This time feels very different. Flooding today x

I feel your pain, I went virtually a year without one and then all of a sudden I get random periods some only a day some 4 or 5 days. I'm gutted as at 51 I thought I was done. It's refreshing to read this happens to others too.

It’s obviously a thing if it’s happening to so many of us. For some reason I had always thought that periods would just stop one day and never re-appear. Clearly and v sadly not. They’re bloody never ending x

I had 3 months of heavier periods after my Covid vaccination and I was extremely pissed off. I'm 52 and no sign of my periods stopping.

iolaus · 15/09/2021 21:03

Guys - you do know that if you have a 'period' after menopause (defined as a year without periods) you need to get checked out as it can be cancer (I know most of you haven't gone that long without one

Mrsjayy · 15/09/2021 21:14

Yes I know if you are a year with no period to get checked out . Thank you though.

BashfulClam · 15/09/2021 21:24

Mother nature’s little joke. Mine likes to hide, I think it’s fine as I haven’t had anything on a pad for over 12 hours. Take pad off and ‘helllllloooo!’ It’s back!

Pebble21uk · 15/09/2021 21:48

I'm in almost the exact same postion as you OP - aged 51, forty years of periods and thought mine had stopped!
I was missing a few random months last year and thankfully they were also getting a lot lighter. Then I went from Jan-July this year with nothing & thought that hurrah, they were fianlly gone!
August - back it came... bastard!
But I did also wonder about the Covid jab playing a part. I was double jabbed with Pfizer in Feb & April, so does make you think.
No period so far this month & more than a week overdue so fingers crossed!
