..to not want timewasters on FB marketplace?

So is it better to offer an item for free or should I ask for a nominal sum?

It's a leather 3 piece suite, ancient but in amazingly good condition.
I know it's not worth much /anything but will asking for a nominal sum like £50 scare off the timewasters and CF chancers?

Advice welcome please.

IME it doesn’t matter if you put it for free or for a nominal sum. I did the same with a sofa, completely free and I still had people asking for free delivery - for up to 2 hours away!

Put in the ad that it doesn't disassemble/ how may bits it splits into, and that they will need a van to collect it. I had someone turn up on foot with a rucksack to pick up a double bed Hmm

It doesn’t matter what price you set, you’ll still get the chances and time wasters.

It really doesn't matter, they don't look at the pictures, they don't read the price, they will ask for delivery, and they WILL expect you to know if it will fit in the back of a Polo, they will ask you how wide the 150cm bed frame (NO MATTTRESS) is, and they will ask what condition the mattress is, and they will ask you how much your £10 item is. They also will accuse you of being too far away cos they are too stupid to use a map.

I would say generally a nominal amount to pay will deter the worst of the timewasters, but it does not ensure any modicum of commonsense in the remainder.

I had the opposite! Asked someone selling a double bed on there if it came apart in pieces or was one block of furniture as that would depend if I could buy it or not, she said yes, I got there and it didn’t! So couldn’t fit in the car and a complete waste of time.

Thanks for the bitter voices of experience!

I suspect that asking for any money will make people want me to earn it by delivering!
And that ain't happening...

I sold my old kitchen on FB and when I didn't respond IMMEDIATELY to a generic "is this still available?" message (cos I was responding to several other people who actually bothered to write a proper message) I got a followup message reading simply "????"
