Not an AIBU, just the best place for traffic. Just dropped my daughter off at Nursery, don't have to pick her up till 1:00, and I'm just sat here now thinking........what do I do with all this spare time, lol, I'm off for two weeks, not going anywhere now as we had to cancel due to Covid reasons, but still have two weeks free, she's spent the last three days at her dad's, so I got lots of things such as cleaning and sorting done then.....and now I'm at a loss as to what to do to fill up the time, and it'll be the same tomorrow and Friday, I'm just not used to it, lol X

Just do whatever you enjoy- take yourself for a cake and coffee in town, have a mooch in the shops, read a book, watch Netflix, go for a walk. Enjoy!

yoyo1234 · 15/09/2021 09:00

You could choose lots of things
Swim/cinema/meals out with friends/start a project.....

inthekitchensink · 15/09/2021 09:00

Sleep, read, swim, write, paint, shop, meditate, pamper, bath, hair, mani/pedi, admin, gardening, meal planning, batch cook, sort stuff for charity shop, Netflix, make money online, gym, horse riding lesson, yoga, coffee shop, run, see a friend, museum, gallery, cinema, walk, sort photos, start Xmas list (making photo calendars etc), book activities with DC, book night away, book restaurant for six months time to look forward to, eat some cheese, podcast, volunteering, online course, Pilates, kickboxing, art course, language course, plan a holiday

You deserve to do whatever you fancy without feeling guilty!

Go for breakfast then round the charity shops - my absolutely favourite thing to do!

Get into a podcast. Spring clear. Watch a film. Find a local walking group (meet up is good app).

Personally, when I had an afternoon off last week I went to bed and slept for 2.5 hours!!

GameSetMatch · 15/09/2021 09:45

I do the food shop, I hate having the kids in tow for shopping. I Hoover and change the beds in peace. I do jobs such as clean the fridge out or clean the cooker because of the chemicals I don’t like doing it with the kids about same with the bathroom.

Sometimes I take my mum shopping because she doesn’t have a car. Basically I do the jobs that the kids hate and moan about.

1940s · 15/09/2021 09:47

Start the Christmas shopping. I know I know.... I've got a few days off this week and I can have a mooch around the toy shops and the cheaper shops like b&m ans Home Bargains for stocking fillers. Much nicer to do it mid week in sept and Oct than Dec weekends!

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 15/09/2021 09:48

I work out, write, study for my course, sit in a coffee shop with a book (during the 3 hours a week my youngest is at school nursery and I'm not working).

ChristmasCocktail · 15/09/2021 09:49

I usually read books in peace, clean, go for a charity shop rummage, go food shopping in peace, do a bit of gaming in peace or have a nap and just do things arc my own pace. It's not that exciting but i need the down time when my dc are at school.

Toodlydoo · 15/09/2021 09:50

Mines just started and I’ve managed to spend the entire morning on mumsnet 🙄. On the list to do is yoga, de-clutter, listen to some podcasts, do some reading.

Wole · 15/09/2021 09:51

What did you do before you had a child? Do that? LOL

Hiphopopotamus · 15/09/2021 09:52

What do I do? I work Confused Days of yoga, shopping and napping sound lovely though. And I can’t imagine why people sometimes thing SAHMs with a school age kids have a cushy deal

Wole · 15/09/2021 09:53

Personally I work so I'd cancel my leave if I'd booked leave

YouJustDoYou · 15/09/2021 09:55

Grocery shopping, Clean, meal prep, laundry, all the boring but necessary house maintenance stuff. If I have some spare time I do one of my hobbies, but that doesn't happen often.

FTEngineerM · 15/09/2021 09:56

So far I have: drank a chai latte, done the dishes, watched a film, put clothes away.

There is quite a list of jobs that need doing though so a nap is probably out of the question today 🤷🏽‍♀️

Wole · 15/09/2021 09:57

Do some batch cooking? Get a haircut?

oohmama · 15/09/2021 09:57

My youngest has just started nursery and it's my first child free time in 6 years
First week I went shopping loads
It was a fucking dream
And now I'm back in bed for a nap
A bloody nap

I start a new job next week so I am trying to make the most of it

Meeting a friend on Friday and I can't wait

And overall I'm just trying to breathe
I swear my body has been on edge and tense since the day my eldest was born
I'm just trying to actually mentally recover from being a stay at home mum 😂

oohmama · 15/09/2021 09:58

Still miss them though 😢😢

Moraxella · 15/09/2021 09:58

I spend my time fretting that I don’t have enough toddler time to get the things done that I need to do. That takes up a lot of my time 🤣

Honestly? Shit all! I watch YouTube and then wonder where the 6 hours went. I can't nap, I can't drive so if I want to go shopping it'd take me an hour or so to get to town, then an hour to get back, I have no hobbies (you can thank lockdown and depression for that, and I struggle to pick new hobbies up anyway), and I have no friends. So YouTube it is! I don't mind all that much, it just gets a bit boring.

FTEngineerM · 15/09/2021 10:02

@oohmama I understand what you mean about just breathing, yesterday I was on the landing and I can’t tell you how happy it made me not to have to worry about the stair gate, whether it was closed and whether there was anything near the bannister that was scalable ahhhh simple things 😂

Actually, I do work 2 days a week but I work from home most of the time, so even then I'm stuck in the house.
