Sick on probation period

I'm 3 months into a 6 month probationary period with no absences so far. I've currently got the worst and most painful chest and dry cough (negative covid test). My work are short staffed, I have told them last night that I won't be coming in, I just can't help feeling super guilty and worried that this could count against me whilst on probation! Do you think this looks awful?!

Where I've always worked one sickness in the six month period affected anything, more than that usually did but if you're ill, you're ill there's nothing more important than your health. Rest up and go back when you feel better.

I've just gone back from a nine month maternity leave and now I have four weeks off due to health concerns, it's just one of those things.

It wouldn’t affect how I viewed you or your probation if you were my staff.

I’d wish you better and that would be that.

Being sick isn’t a moral failing. Long as you don’t take off longer than you need it’s fine. If other wise you are doing great job it be stupid employers who decided get rid of you !

This is my third day of my job and I'm off sick as well.
It's such bad timing isn't it?!

Ive had this a couple of times with new team members, and wouldn’t think twice about it. You’re sick, you can’t help being sick. I would far rather you stayed home and got better than came in, struggled with the work and potentially pass something on to other staff.
Don’t waste any more energy worrying about it.
Hope you feel better soon.
