To think there was more positivity in the 90s than the 00s?

I think there was. DP thinks the 00s were a more positive decade and says because of our age difference (he’s six years older) it’s only because of nostalgia I see the 90s as better as I was a child.

I am saying YABU, because for me the 1980s was the best. I was a teen/young adult for much of it, and it was such an amazing time. Partying, holidays with mates abroad, out 3 nights a week, going straight to the pub after work on a Friday with colleagues, staying til 8pm, coming home to get changed, then going back out at 9pm to a nightclub and staying til 3am, not knowing where I was going to wake up, no commitments, no debts, working on a cruise ship with some friends for 5 months, lots of travelling, no worries. Such a carefree time.

Had my family/kids in the 1990s, and I love this life now, and I would never change a thing, but my more 'carefree' days were the 1980s. I have very happy memories of them.

Then again, I have happy memories of childhood Christmases too, (in the 1970s,) AND happy memories of my kids being 5 to 15 years old. Late 1990s to 2010-ish... The late teen years were hard work, but now they're mid 20s, they're like really good friends now, and we are very close.

I think things have become progressively more miserable since 2010. The 1990s were the last optimistic decade.

That and the political and economic backdrop.

The world changed after 9/11 (2001) and then again in 2008.

Social media has a lot to answer for.

It started earlier. Late 90s.

The Tony Blair government destroyed a lot of positivity and hope.
