Am going for the 1st time I'm Oct half term. Tickets booked for 3pm. Staying in Central London near London Victoria.
Was planning on getting train there but looks complicated?!
Looked into transport only options and it's £40pp and stops at 6pm so no good anyway?
What would you lovely mumsnetters advise?

Just use your debit card for tube travel- contactless wipe in and out of the tube stations and it auro Bill's your debit card up to a fixed amount (think it's about 8quid a day).

This has reminded me to look in to hotels for when we go! We're driving to HP studios and hoping to stay over in Watford, then get the train/ tube (I don't know which, total novice!) from Watford in to London for the day.

@1lifeliveitright

Thanks. I've looked at the options but did wonder if there were huge queues for the shuttle bus at £3 return which is why some people pay £40 for the bus from Victoria?! If we do that it's £140 for a family ticket! It is combined with a London trip so staying at Watford no good. I'm assuming a cab would be ridiculous also? So if we do underground to Euston then West Midlands train to Watford which ticket option is best? Oyster or Travel card? We will also be using underground other days also. It's a minefield! 2 adults, 17 & 11 yr old.
Google is your friend on this. You can find out typical fares for different taxi firms and Ubers. The journey by car can take about an hour and a half from Victoria. But touching in and out with contactless is the cheapest way to travel and Watford Junction also operates Oyster/tap in/ot.

but if you're also paying for children who do not have a debit card, how do you tap in/out for them as well as self ?

As you've got an 11 year old, probably easiest to get a visitor Oyster card for at least one of you and get them added on.

Just for clarity - Watford has several stations.

The one you want is the mainline station (accessible from Euston) called Watford Junction. Not the Watford Underground station or Watford High Street station.

TheSmallAssassin · 14/09/2021 21:45

I read the visitor Oyster card a bit wrong, I think, you need to get one for your 11 year old, and then get it set to add on the children's discount, so it only charges half price each time. Everyone else can use their debit cards, or get themselves a visitor Oyster card.

Also - when you're at Euston, don't go for the trains with watford as their final destination, you'll have to go through a million stops. Go for a train destined for Birmingham /Milton Keynes /(possibly another one I've forgotten.) Watford will be either the first stop or maybe 3rd after Harrow and Croxley. That way it will only take you 20 mins from Euston!
