For a dance class for reception to year 6:

Verse 1]
If you wanna run away with me, I know a galaxy
And I can take you for a ride
I had a premonition that we fell into a rhythm
Where the music don't stop for life
Glitter in the sky, glitter in my eyes
Shining just the way I like
If you're feeling like you need a little bit of company
You met me at the perfect time

[Pre-Chorus]
You want me, I want you, baby
My sugarboo, I'm levitating
The Milky Way, we're renegading
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Chorus]
I got you, moonlight, you're my starlight
I need you all night, come on, dance with me
I'm levitating
You, moonlight, you're my starlight (You're the moonlight)
I need you all night, come on, dance with me
I'm levitating

[Verse 2]
I believe that you're for me, I feel it in our energy
I see us written in the stars
We can go wherever, so let's do it now or never
Baby, nothing's ever, ever too far
Glitter in the sky, glitter in our eyes
Shining just the way we are
I feel like we're forever every time we get together
But whatever, let's get lost on Mars

[Pre-Chorus]
You want me, I want you, baby
My sugarboo, I'm levitating
The Milky Way, we're renegading
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

[Chorus]
I got you, moonlight, you're my starlight
I need you all night, come on, dance with me
I'm levitating
You, moonlight, you're my starlight (You're the moonlight)
I need you all night, come on, dance with me
I'm levitating

[Post-Chorus]
You can fly away with me tonight
You can fly away with me tonight
Baby, let me take you for a ride
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm levitating (Woo)
You can fly away with me tonight
You can fly away with me tonight
Baby, let me take you for a ride
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (Woo)

[Bridge]
My love is like a rocket, watch it blast off
And I'm feeling so electric, dance my ass off
And even if I wanted to, I can't stop
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
My love is like a rocket, watch it blast off
And I'm feeling so electric, dance my ass off
And even if I wanted to, I can't stop
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

HappySM1 · 13/09/2021 21:53

Confused did the teachers not listen to the words, and pick them just for the tunes? (I don't know either song, so no idea if the tunes are in any way redemptive of those God awful lyrics).

I'd not be super keen on my 4 year old bopping round singing those words...

HappySM1 · 13/09/2021 21:54

Oh no, wrong way round! I have messed this one up!!

OP posts:
LongDissidence · 13/09/2021 21:55

Do you mean

YABU = they are fine
YANBU = they're inappropriate

HappySM1 · 13/09/2021 21:55

My dd is 7. The "music" is not up to much (in my view). A bit "nts nts nts", not really tunes as such.

"Dance my ass off" is not on, is it?

Both are fine the second is a mash up from Disney anyways so made for kids.

dementedpixie · 13/09/2021 21:59

1st song is by Dua Lipa and I like it
Don't know the other one

thisplaceisweird · 13/09/2021 22:00

It's fine, the "I'm horny" song was popular on the radio when I was 4 and I knew all the words. Still do.

tywysoges · 13/09/2021 22:01

Dua Lipa and Descendants = fine.

parietal · 13/09/2021 22:03

I think these are fine

DeathStare · 13/09/2021 22:06

Meh. Wouldn't bother me. But then my kids surprised me by knowing all the lyrics to The Beautiful South's Don't Marry Her.

😂😂😂
Notimeforaname · 13/09/2021 22:12

No problem at all. I and other instructors would have no bad reaction using these songs in class with our children. I think they're fine.
As a poster said above..we all knew the words to ''I'm horny'' as children. It was on tv adverts and radio all the time🤣

RocketPanda · 13/09/2021 22:13

I didn't know the first one but the second song is from Disneys Descendants. ASD dd is obsessed with those movies so I know every line and every song. The song you have in your OP is literally about Disney villans and their children being ostracised.

Fuck that makes me feel old.

Op yabu, most adults dont listen to the words, kids even more so

Ah, you're so young! I was a grumpy indie goth raver teenager when that came out and HATED it.
Notimeforaname · 13/09/2021 22:16

My 6 year old niece is in a drama class, run in her catholic school and last years dance routine was done to that song Havana. Here's a lyric from that song

Bump on her bumper like a traffic jam
Hey, I was quick to pay that girl like Uncle Sam (here you go, ayy) 🤣🤷‍♀️

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/09/2021 22:17

I had the same issue but in year two.

Can’t remember the song or artist (years ago) but it involved hip wiggling and the line “here’s my number, call me, baby”.

I was the only parent with concerns. 🤷‍♀️

Youdoyoutoday · 13/09/2021 22:17

Eww! That's not appropriate!

WillaWeatherspoon · 13/09/2021 22:19

I might slightly raise an eyebrow at "dance my ass off" but otherwise they seem fine

HappySM1 · 13/09/2021 22:20

Fair enough, that's why I asked. It's not to my taste at all, I don't listen to stuff like that and was surprised it would feature in a primary school dance class. Clearly it's just me, so I will just retreat gracefully at this moment...

I just think there is so much great music out there, there is no need to resort to this kind of stuff which introduces sexualised concepts to kids, even if they don't really understand it.

Some of the examples above are way worse!

SpamIAm · 13/09/2021 22:26

Aw when my sister was really young if you sang "I see you baby" she'd sing "shaking that ass!" Whilst shaking her bum, of course.

I was horrified when she was casually singing Rihanna's Rude Boy in the car aged 11, though.

Anyway, can't see a problem with either of those songs (other than the lyrics are shit). Nothing overtly sexual in the first one. Not sure what your issue is in the second one - the word evil?
