Any denture success stories

I’m planning on having a lot of my top teeth removed ASAP and replaced with a denture; please can I have some positive stories.

At around 14 dentists told me that my teeth wouldn’t survive adulthood; I had 4 extra canines removed and they were in terrible condition. I have terrible genes; both my parents lost their teeth in their 20s! They’ve now become loose and are clinging on for dear life. I saw a dentist pre-Covid and sobbed the entire appointment as I’ve been told to continue with the hygiene appointments and keep them as long as I can. Enough is enough! I’m constantly scared they’ll fall out - my wedding is in two months and everyday I worry about smiling in the photos. Every dentist I’ve seen has encouraged me to keep them in as long as possible as “I’m too young.” I finally found a dentist who agreed to a 5 teeth partial but Covid stopped all progress. I haven’t been able to see the hygienist in 18 months and it’s taken months to get an appointment with an NHS dentist. I’m FINALLY seeing him in a couple of weeks and am going to request my teeth are out ASAP.

Please does anyone have any stories about dentures, dentures at a young age, NHS success stories?!

I had a partial put in earlier this year. I had a terribly crooked tooth and it does look a lot better now. However, I wouldn't recommend starting any work before your wedding as mine took 4 months of appointments to get the right fit. This is because the gum changes shape after the teeth are removed. Also it effects your speech so you'll need to adapt to that.

Thank you. I did think this! I’ve just got to hope that this tooth actually lasts another 2 months. It’s becoming more and more loose by the day! Was yours an NHS partial?

My only query, what is your gag reflex like? I gag at the slightest thing and just cannot get on with my partials at all, I am affected by where they touch the roof of my mouth. I have had them altered too, but this did not help.

I have a partial plate on my top gums. It took 4 appointments (over a couple of weeks) to remove my teeth and have the plate fitted. It was fine, I have no problems with them and they fitted properly straight away.

Thank you! My gag reflex is okay. I’m looking at flexible dentures at the minute but honestly just want these front ones out now. It’s all I think about all day and the anxiety is awful!
