Very worried - toddler

Not sure where to post this but worried. Just gone into the kitchen to check on dinner and noticed my 2 year old taking a bite of a chicken nugget which must of fell out the freezer - it was defrosted. Must of been out the freezer for an hour or so. It was the tiniest amount I told her spit it out and tried to get it but she swallowed it.

Will she be ok, worried sick now !

It's not raw so she'll be fine. It's precooked formed chicken

pastabest · 13/09/2021 17:37

Most chicken nuggets are pre-cooked and then frozen. When you 'cook' them you are actually reheating them.

A bizarre thread on mumsnet recently suggested some people even eat them and serve them cold, at parties Grin

She will be fine, and if is the worst thing she has picked up and eaten so far you have done well.

Lauralu19 · 13/09/2021 17:46

Thank you, I did think so, but I’ve just read the back of the packet and it says ‘your chicken nuggets contain raw meat; please ensure product is piping hot before eaten’ now I’m worrying even more! It really was the smallest amount though, probably smaller than a 5p. I didn’t even realise it had fallen out

What brand of chicken nuggets?

Lauralu19 · 13/09/2021 18:35

They were birds eye @pastabest

It'll be fine. Toddlers are vile

fretnot · 13/09/2021 18:51

I thought that freezing meat kills a lot of the nasties, and it sounds like it wasn’t long out of the freezer. I wouldn’t worry OP.

MonkeyToez · 13/09/2021 18:55

My sister once ate cat food from a bowl on the floor and survived - your daughter will be fine Grin

OobleFloobleBooble · 13/09/2021 18:57

Have name changed for this but DH works at a factory where they produce nuggets such as the ones you speak of and they are flash fried for about 2 minutes before they're then frozen, so they're not fully cooked but not raw either.

Keeva2017 · 13/09/2021 19:02

@naesake couldn’t agree more. There really gross little beasts sometimes!

Strawbsaturno · 13/09/2021 19:05

I’m sure she’ll be fine… DS has eaten soil and licked the toilet before, DD has licked a 💩 too. I was hysterical crying about that one, and she was fine.

YoBeaches · 13/09/2021 19:19

The processing element of chicken nuggets in the factory includes and element of cooking so it's not the same as pure raw chicken but for regulatory purposes it's not considered fully
Cooked so has to be labelled as 'contains raw meat'. There is no legal in between.

She'll be fine.

DeepaBeesKit · 13/09/2021 19:22

Even if they were raw it's pretty unlikely they'd do her any harm. That sort of processed food has been pre-cooked and in any case food standards are very high in uk, things like salmonella are rare.

DeepaBeesKit · 13/09/2021 19:23

Ps yep I've caught both my kids getting dry food from the cat bowl, pre-licked and nibbled by said cat. Children do quite literally lick slugs given the chance.

icedcoffees · 13/09/2021 19:24

She'll be fine! Toddlers are gross Grin

Lauralu19 · 13/09/2021 20:31

@OobleFloobleBooble @YoBeaches thanks for that info! That’s useful to know and thank you everyone for reassuring me. She has been fine since thankfully

Agreed they really are gross sometimes! Grin

My dd once are a sweet she found of the floor of the train. She survived, I’m sure yours will too.

Nonicknamesforcatapillars · 13/09/2021 21:07

Ate a sweet!

ANameChangeAgain · 13/09/2021 21:11

Mine drank cow wee! I was terrified but he was fine.

Kitdeluca1 · 13/09/2021 21:13

She’ll be fine, might get a messy poo out of it at most. She’s probably had a sly lick of something a lot worse that you’ve never even known about, I know mine will have!

KingdomScrolls · 13/09/2021 22:24

I ate most of a live stag beetle as a child, DS has licked all sorts including a shop window in the middle of Covid and he's eaten cat biscuits. I'm sure she'll be fine
