Leaving 6 Yr old at party

Ds has a party to go to today the parent said I can drop him off or welcome to stay... Normally I would stay but I think he's getting old enough now for me to drop and run.

Drop and run! As long as he's happy.

Newnormal99 · 12/09/2021 09:16

I am sure I dropped and ran well before y2.

MalFunkshun · 12/09/2021 09:21

Definitely drop and run - and enjoy the quiet time! I LOVE birthday party season 🤣

Does he know the parent in charge and would he tell the parent or his friends (who would tell the parents) if he got hurt or if he was unsure about something? I definitely left both of mine by Year 2 but neither are particularly shy and both are confident talking to adults.

Drop and run if you think he’ll be fine, congrats on reaching the next stage of parent life 🎉

We hosted a 6th bday party recently 26 kids, 4 parents stayed. 2 of those just because they live a distance away so it wasn't worth driving away and back again. I had most parents details so could have called if needed.

mindutopia · 12/09/2021 21:05

I would say 50% dropped and ran starting in reception. No one stayed from Y1 so assuming he’s happy on his own, I’d leave him.

pastaparadise · 12/09/2021 21:07

I would stay as I know ds would be anxious if I left, and I like socialising, but you know your child best

Unless he is quite shy, I'd drop and run. I've done drop and run once at a party with my 6yo. I did know the mum reasonably well.
