I've only just recently found out that until 2010 those who were HIV positive were banned from entering the USA. I didn't know this and I'm shocked that it was only 11 years ago that the law changed.

I didn't know that. How would they know, though? I don't remember being asked that question.

Loads of people managed to get around the ban but if it came to light that you had HIV you would be refused entry in to the country and deported.
