After seeing another recent post in this thread I thought I’d add my own and ask if anyone has any experience?

So Wednesday we were given ovex and administered it to me DP, 2 year old DD and 10 year old step daughter. My question is….

WHY AM I STILL SEING LIVE WORMS. and more than before the medicine? She’s still complaining albeit not as much but I thought three days and gone? These are LONG so not newly hatched by any means. Few dead in poop today some Alive in poop yesterday and now more alive around bum I don’t even have to look well to see them. There’s been a few around 5 at nappy change ( one detach time) what can I do????? No one has symptoms apart from my 2 year old. Shouldn’t they be dead? I’m going insane with it all.

Cleaned whole house daily washed all bedding daily washed everything. DS sleeps in nappy buttoned vert and a sleepsuit so no chance of night scratching and is sane during day (no access) please someone tell me you had this and they did go away I feel awful for her.

You'll need the second treatment, follows 7 days after the first.

I found anthisan was great for relieving any itching

CarlaTownsend · 11/09/2021 17:34

@JustFrustrated thanks yes I know he said second treatment in 14 days but they should be dead so they are going to lay more eggs that won’t even be hatched by the time of the second treatment which doesn’t work on eggs anyway. It’s been 3 full days.

Ok so the way worms work is they cling to the inside of the gut so they don’t come out with the poo.

The medication doesn’t kill them, it paralyses them in a particular way so they can’t cling on any more and will come out with the poo.

So it is understandable that you will see more in the days after the medication as that’s when they start being pooed out. It shows the medication is working.

Have faith and make sure you take a second dose - 2 weeks after the first dose - all of you. The second dose gets any that were just eggs at the time of the first dose, before they are old enough to start laying eggs themselves.

CarlaTownsend · 11/09/2021 17:36

@minipie I have read about that medication this is ovex which works by stopping them eating basically stops them absorbing glucose. They are wriggling out even when she hasn’t pooped. So I’m worrying now that they are alive and should have starved to death. Thank you!

Hmmm ok! In that case maybe a second dose is in order - I’d ask the pharmacist if that is ok

Vebrithien · 11/09/2021 17:41

If it helps, when DS was 10 months, it took 5 days for the detached worms to stop wriggling (with increasingly more dead ones in the nappy). When he had the second dose, there were only one or 2 dead ones, no living ones.

CarlaTownsend · 11/09/2021 17:41

@minipie I have no idea just want her to stop being uncomfortable. Horrible little things.

OP posts:
CarlaTownsend · 11/09/2021 17:41

@Vebrithien second dose two weeks later? And was it ovex.

OP posts:
CarlaTownsend · 11/09/2021 17:49

@Vebrithien and did he still seem uncomfortable with them during that time?

OP posts:
CarlaTownsend · 11/09/2021 19:18

Anyone??? I’m desperate.

@CarlaTownsend did you try second dose before the 2 weeks, same boat over here. Thank you

MagicCurses · 17/02/2022 11:20

@W1ntersnow yes I took after a few days to be honest kept on top of the house. Washed bedding every day etc probably took a dose then 7 days later then two weeks after that.

W1ntersnow · 17/02/2022 11:40

Thank you for replying, I took another dose this morning! Still cleaning etc too. Thank you

Hankunamatata · 17/02/2022 11:46

Eggs can survive up to 2 weeks. Medication only works on worms, not the eggs.

caringcarer · 17/02/2022 12:23

Check with chemist if ok to take extra dose.

MagicCurses · 17/02/2022 13:28

@caringcarer I already did. It’s not absorbed by the system.

W1ntersnow · 18/02/2022 08:17

@MagicCurses oh ok, I haven't spoken with pharmacist yet. That's interesting to know. I took another dose yesterday.
