Lateral flow test help please

My dad and I tested positive for Covid on the 2nd September. Symptoms started on the 1st September.

We've been isolating and are due to stop. We both have no symptoms. I've just done a lateral flow test and it came back negative but my dad's are still showing positive.

Does that mean he needs to isolate for longer, or could it be a false positive? Thank you

You're not meant to do another PCR test within 90 days

QuestionableMouse · 11/09/2021 13:41

I'm not. They're lateral flow tests.

I think it could be because the virus is still in your system. As long as you don't have runny nose or any D and/or V you're safe to go out.

x2boys · 11/09/2021 13:42

Did test and trace not give you a date to stop self isolating?
When my son had covid it was confirmed with a PCR and we all had to isolate for ten days (before the rules were changed)

Theimpossiblegirl · 11/09/2021 13:43

It's fine unless he's still got a temperature, vomiting and diarrhoea or sneezing. That's what they told me, my lfts were positive for a while after isolation.

QuestionableMouse · 11/09/2021 13:45

Thank you.

Today is the last day.

Just trying to be extra careful atm because it's been a super shitty week.

Yeah it's fine to end isolation as long as you don't have symptoms excluding a cough and loss of taste and smell as they can take a while to recover. That's what they told me on the phone today.

Lancrelady80 · 11/09/2021 13:47

I believe they say tests after you've had Covid can still show as positive for 90 days. So doesn't necessarily mean someone is still infectious.

If your dad is able to continue isolating without causing problems elsewhere eg job, commitments then it would probably be a good thing to stick it out a few more days if he can (originally it was 14 days isolation, wasn't it?) But if he has no symptoms and it's going to be really difficult, then he wouldn't be doing anything wrong by ending isolation.

QuestionableMouse · 11/09/2021 13:59

Thank you. No symptoms at all and he's going stir crazy being in the house on his own.

I've been told by work I shouldn't do either lateral flow or PCR tests for 90 days. I came out of isolation last Sunday and we usually have to do 2 tests a week for work.

Theimpossiblegirl · 11/09/2021 14:22

You can get a Covid passport on the NHS app which cancels out the need for negative lfts post covid.

Wole · 11/09/2021 14:34

@QuestionableMouse

I'm not. They're lateral flow tests.
I know but I thought the info on PCRs might be helpful.
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/09/2021 14:41

You don't test after having Covid with any test. As long as you haven't got diarrhoea/ coughing/ temperature still after the 10 days then isolation is finished.

ThePontiacBandit · 11/09/2021 15:00

Yeah I work in hospital, we test (lateral flow) twice a week. People who have had Covid are told not to do lateral flows for 90 days.

ShaneTheThird · 11/09/2021 17:05

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor. You can leave isolation after ten days with a cough. Coughs can take weeks to clear up.

Someone should tell Track and Trace or whatever they're called, that's what they told usGrin

ShaneTheThird · 12/09/2021 17:56

Track and trace and the NHS have told me a cough can last for weeks after infection therefore you are allowed out of isolation if you still have one.

Annoyedanddissapointed · 12/09/2021 18:21

It's been so long rules should be wide knowm by now...
Also the fact it's not track and trace😂

seaandsandcastles · 12/09/2021 18:23

You shouldn’t have done any test.
