How do I get rid of flashing ads?

When I read mumsnet, as I often do, I hate the flashing ads that are at the top of my screen. I wouldn't care if the ads didn't move but the way it flashes annoys my eyes. These are ads for clothes shops and banks etc. Aibu to ask can I get rid of them? Or is this the price I pay for reading mumsnet?

If only there was a way you could pay for something like Mumsnet premium and have no ads…

BeaucoupFish · 11/09/2021 11:27

Install the DuckDuckGo browser seems to stop a lot of it

@ryan I didn't know about mumsnet premium. Thank you for telling me. Your tone however is unfortunate

One of the reasons I have ad- blockers is the constant visual interference... and it's not just mumsnet. It all gives me a headache!

No need to be like that is there.. For a start, not everyone who uses Mumsnet can afford premium so why would your first response to an innocent question be so sarky?

OP if you don't want to/can't pay for premium you could try downloading the app. I don't seem to get the as many ads on the app as I do on the website.

I don't think MN should be using flashing ads anyway tbh. Not very pleasant for their users.

Was that necessary? Do you feel better for it?

Why would you do that when you can download an adblock for free?
scarpa · 11/09/2021 13:39

I use AdBlocker (a Chrome add-on). It's free and I get no ads at all!

scarpa · 11/09/2021 13:39

*AdBlock, sorry

getadblock.com/en/ Here's the link!

squashyhat · 11/09/2021 13:46

Use Firefox as your browser and download a free adblocker add-on.

araiwa · 11/09/2021 14:45

I'm amazed anybody uses the internet without an adblocker these days

SarahOsborne · 11/09/2021 23:49

Wow! I got me some adblocker! I'd never heard of that. I already subscribed to mumsnet this morning cos of @Ryan's advice but this is even better. Every days a school day
