To ask about 'The Pill'

Mostly posting here as 'Health' doesn't get much traffic.

I just wondered if anyone else experienced side effects when starting the pill and how long did they last?

I had the coil removed 2.5 weeks ago (requested by gynae as I'm awaiting investigation) and was given a progeatin only pill.

The last week I've had sore breasts, felt sick, headaches and hot flushes as well as episodes of light headedness. Basically the same symptoms I get in early pregnancy. However I seem to remember feeling the same when I had the mirena coil, so Im assuming it's due to the hormones. I can't remember how long it lasts though.

Horrendous mood swings. Panic . Rage. I'll never take hormonal contraception ever again. Sorry! Might be a bit heavy but it was like that for me unfortunately.

@Changednamesorry I understand and it sounds like an awful experience. I basically didn't want anything hormonal but I was a bit stuck because I'm not allowed a coil at the moment, so had to go for hormonal contraception.

Can you partner use condoms alongside something non hormonal like a diaphragm?

Lan2020 · 10/09/2021 16:13

Possibly, I'm not overly keen on condoms (in a long term relationship) but will see if things settle with the pill. Once I've been seen by gynae for my pelvic issue, I'm hoping to have the coil again. I'm just hoping these symptoms settle soon as I feel rubbish!

My sex life absolutely disappeared, furious anger, weepy, sad. Never ever again!!!

@PaperhouseLegs that's awful! I don't think I've had any mood related symptoms yet. Just the sickness, dizziness, hot sweats and nausea.
