Men at work

There is some major construction work going on at my place of work. When you leave my office building a new sign has sprung up saying “Men at work. Dangerous. Proceed with Caution.” The actual construction site is some distance away and fully fenced off.

WIBU to put a sign up on the other side saying “Women at work. Perfectly safe. Carry on as you are.”?

I mean, the place I work has huge issues with internalised sexism so this may taint my view, but as an organisation that struggles to recruit female engineers, this is not a good look…

YABU.

It's a standard health and safety sign that needs to be put up (regardless of how well fenced the area is) to advise people to be cautious.

Clearly your issues with your workplace at coming into play here, but putting up another sign would be rather ridiculous.

There are some that would say that this is petty, etc. but I agree with you.
The signage needs to be updated (so whoever produces these things take note) so should say, "Danger. Construction work underway. Proceed with caution."
I like your idea of a counter-balance sign but some people may not take it in the spirit in which you intend.

X posted with Santa but it sort if reinforced my point. Yes there is a need for a standard safety sign. But the default in the sign doesn't need to specify the sex of the workers.

Fine with sign posting a construction site. But why does it need to specify “Men at Work” rather than say “Construction area”? I would go so far as to say that particular phrase actually obscures the message, especially for the non native English speakers we employ.

Your sign would give me a giggle. I think they do need to update signs currently being made but I'd rather they continue to use existing signs until they absolutely have to be replaced rather than throw them out.

Ours is printed on an A4 sheet of paper…
