Bt haven't billed me for first 6 months?

Dh and I moved house in January. We originally planned to move our sky Internet but sky accidently cancelled our contract. On moving day rung bt set up a contract with them and used my details for direct debit with them promising to have it up and running in a few days. Due to various issues they didn't til mid Feb so no Internet for six weeks and as a sorry gave us a £40 credit.

Today I get an email saying my first bill is ready. I am confused 1. Cos dh generally handles the bills (bar the mortgage which comes out my account) and 2. I had assumed we'd been paying since Feb.

Nope, first bill and it is our £40 credit. Check with dh and he said he hasn't paid and assumed I was as I set it up in the middle of all the moving chaos.

I checked and the direct debit is all correct but just haven't been billed yet.

Has anyone else had this issue. And what should we do. We have the money to pay the bill but don't want to end up with them trying to charge us fees etc for them not billing us.

Any advice

Is it a newbuild? They normally don’t charge for the first few months whilst they sort out the lines.

Nope. 1940s house. Previous owners also had bt. Know they cut it off properly (we are still in contact with them)

I am with Plusnet who got taken over by BT. I moved house over 2 years ago and have hardly been charged anything for my landline/broadband since then despite them telling me it was all in hand. I rang them recently to try and sort it out but just got told 'It's frustrating when the computer won't do what it should. Don't worry, when you get a bill it will only be backdated by 3 months'. So I keep 3 months worth of pyts in my current a/c awaiting their bill and enjoy my 'free' landline/broadband. In return though I have never used the landline to make' free' calls.
