AIBU - Lump under armpit.

MrsWarleggan · 08/09/2021 18:32

3 weeks ago in the bath I noticed a lump/bump under my armpit. It feels "fleshy" not particularly hard and is about the size of a 10p.

I felt the other armpit (so did DH) and he said whilst there is something there it doesn't feel totally dissimilar to the other. It's not particularly painful and certainly wasn't until I found it (I'm very mind over matter in general when it comes to medical things)

I called the Dr's and was on the phone to him for about 30mins. Was really nice and asking lots of questions. He said that he wasn't at all concerned and that it will probably disappear on its on. I said I was concerned about breast cancer (DGM had it late on in life) and again reiterated that he wasn't concerned. He also said that it was pointless referring me for a scan as because it hasn't been 4 weeks it would just be bounced back. He said I did the right thing and it's now noted on my file.

It's no more painful than it was 3 weeks ago, hasn't got any bigger but its still there 🙄

WIBU to call Dr's tomorrow and insist I be sent for a scan even though it hasn't been 4 weeks yet?

It's driving me insane thinking/over thinking about it 😔

I had the same a few months ago, my doctor referred me on a 2 week pathway to be seen by the breast clinic. In actual fact it only took a week to be seen, had mammograms, ultra sound, and physical exam by a consultant, thankfully no sign of anything serious, but did have enlarged lymphnodes, that now have to be kept an eye on, that's what the lump and pain was. Told me it was probably caused by the covid vaccine, and they were seeing more and more women with the same thing. I'd go back to your doctor and insist on being referred, just to be on the safe side

MrsWarleggan · 08/09/2021 18:48

@Flidina thanks for this. How long after your jab did you notice it? Its the same side I had my jab on.

I had my 2nd vaccine in June and first noticed it about the end of July, they asked which side I'd had the vaccine in, but mine was on the opposite side, it's still there now, a bit uncomfortable now and again, have to get checked again in 6 months or before if any noticeable change.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 08/09/2021 18:56

I wouldn't be happy with this OP and would insist on a referral or at the very least a second opinion. Your GP might be right but it needs to properly examined and have the appropriate scans to make sure it is nothing more sinister.
Good luck OP.

Mummydoctor · 08/09/2021 19:05

You need a face to face appointment to be examined and the swelling assessed properly. I would ring back and tell them you are concerned because of your family history.

DieDeutschLehrerin · 08/09/2021 19:06

As a person with a missing left boob who was told to go away and maybe seek counselling for being upset at the thought that my symptoms (of cancer) might be cancer, please make a new appointment, say you are really struggling and want to be referred to the breast clinic to have it checked and to put your mind at rest. It is probably nothing sinister at all but the breast clinic are the experts in lumps and bumps in this area and will be able to check it efficiently and thoroughly. The fact I went back and asked for a referral meant that I got the best possible outcome given the circumstances. The pay off for being insistent can be huge. Good luck.

WillaWeatherspoon · 08/09/2021 19:07

I had this after my 2nd Pfizer vaccine. It gradually disappeared around 3 weeks later and all back to normal now. Hope yours also disappears on its own but do go back to the GP to get it checked out if it doesn't.

PivotPivotPivottt · 08/09/2021 19:10

Oh I've been getting this! One is more noticeable and painful than the other they go away for a while then comes back so I've tried not to worry too much. Glad to read lots of women have had this after the vaccine hopefully that's what's causing it but I'm definitely making a doctors appointment if they come back again.

MrsWarleggan · 08/09/2021 19:28

I had my 2nd jab 17th July so noticed the lump, 4-5 weeks after 🤷‍♀️

I have also been extremely run down.. Summer hols, working FT hours when should be working PT, FIL receiving end of life and subsequently passing away last week.

It's all come at once 🙁

Get yourself an appointment, get onto them tomorrow. Chances are it isn't but it could be something serious.

ShallWeStartTheMeeting · 08/09/2021 19:40

Definitely have it checked out.
I've had one for years but I had it examined and it was found to be a benign cyst.
I was told any weird lump/swelling in the breast or armpit area should always be investigated as a precaution.

Babymamma192 · 08/09/2021 19:44

Definitely go and get it checked anything that is unusual like that needs checking. It's probably nothing serious but don't take no for an answer it could potentially save your life be persistent.

scarpa · 08/09/2021 19:45

I get this when I'm really run down/fighting something off (assumed it was a lymph node?), but that's happened all my life. If it's unusual for you I'd push again - better to piss a doctor off for nothing than any of the alternatives.

scarpa · 08/09/2021 19:46

Also, just checked NHS website - you should see a GP if a swollen gland (including under armpit) hasn't gone down within 2 weeks and/or have no other sign of infection.

MrsWarleggan · 08/09/2021 20:05

Thanks all. Will give Dr's a call tomorrow 🙂

Asked to be seen in person and to have your breasts and the lump examined. It's not necessarily a breast referral could be anything. Lumps shd always be examined in person. Be insistent.

maddening · 08/09/2021 20:43

I had a lump on my collar bone after my jab, was there a few weeks and it came back after my second jab

sprinkleyumnut · 10/09/2021 11:14

How did you get on OP?
