It'll be voted through then forgotten about I suppose until people actually see their wages go down by which time it'll be too late to do anything about it.
At election time ( a way off yet ) nobody will say ' we shall reverse this ' so it's here to stay now.
I just hope there is an independent body who can make sure it is spent wisely etc but I'm not holding my breath for any of that.

I tried to start a new thread on this as the original one seemed to close .. new to this so not quite sure what I’m doing so sorry if duplicated!!
Re NI increase the problem is the money has to be found from somewhere. The new national insurance rises share the cost between employers and employees which seems fair and you don’t start paying NI till your income is above £184 per week. I would say generally NHS workers are pretty well paid compared with average wages in U.K. and although increases have been frozen I don’t think there has been any furlough in public sector and I think a lot of people would be happy with NHS pay rates.
However for me I think raising more from inheritance taxes makes sense if we are looking at ways to improve social services for the living .. possibly 20% on all estates above £50,000?
Also things like working tax credits have got out of hand compared with when they were first introduced and now they cost the country an absolute fortune and it seems very strange that we have labour shortages and record vacancies whilst paying people to work part time.

Can’t they just rename it the HS2 tax because that’s basically where these billions are going?

Canii · 09/09/2021 13:48

How are we just letting the government spend £100 billion on HS2 and then doing this to us??? No one even wants HS2!!!
“There’s not enough money for NHS/social care”.
Well they can fucking find the money for whatever they fancy. Why don’t people see this?

InpatientGardener · 09/09/2021 14:01

@canii I can see this. Didnt vote for them, never would, never will.
