AIBU to do this at a wedding

Family wedding today on DPs side. DP is the best man.

7yo is a close contact so I have no childcare for him and now cant attend the wedding.

The venue is right beside my house in a secluded location.

I feel awful not being able to attend and am thinking of a few things I could do:

  • wait at the side of the road outside my house with DC to wave at the bride as she passes on her way to the ceremony?
  • pop to the venue between the ceremony and the meal to do a quick greet and congratulations. I'd leave DS in the car in my view?

AIBU thinking to do one of these suggestions?

DP wants to pop home for an hour during the day to look after DC while I go to see everyone, but I don't think he should do this as hes the best man and shout be there for photos, meet and greet etc.

If you were going to do any of the above, would you put on the full wedding guest outfit you had prepared?

Are you in England OP? Has your son had a PCR test that’s come back yet?

Movingsoon21 · 08/09/2021 12:06

Aw OP you are lovely to be coming up with all these solutions! Very thoughtful of you.

I’d do all 3! And yes dress up, why not?! If you’re worried about DH being away for too long could you just do a 40 min trip and just focus on main fee people?

Movingsoon21 · 08/09/2021 12:06

Main few!

I'd take DC out to wave as the bridal party goes past as long as you can keep a good distance from any passers by. I wouldn't go into the reception and leave him in the car, it's roasting today.

Hekatestorch · 08/09/2021 12:08

I would just wave from the side.

I definitely wouldn't be going for an hour while Dp comes home for that time. He is tbe best man and should be there for all the main parts.

Just the first one is acceptable in my book. If you did have Covid you'd be possibly giving it to guests if you do the others

Sorry should have said, no were not in England and he had PCR test yesterday but dont expect result back until much later today or tomorrow.

I did two self tests on him yesterday which came back negative but I dont know how accurate my swabbing is and he has had a headache since Monday, which he never usually has.

Thanks @Movingsoon21 Smile

Are you in England? Children under 18 no longer have to isolate as close contacts.

Coffeeanddarkchoc · 08/09/2021 12:12

Thanks everyone else too, I didnt know if that first suggestion sounded stupid but we will do that. There will definitely be no passers by on foot.

Sorry cross post!

Jerseygirl12 · 08/09/2021 12:13

I’d do the first option and get dressed up.

Saoirse82 · 08/09/2021 12:14

Definitely the first suggestion, lovely idea.
