Can you still have a relationship with dp but not have anything to do with the in-laws ?

I don’t have a relationship with my mil or her partner anymore. I tried for years to get them to like me but it was clear they didn’t and I decided after 19 years that I wasn’t going to put up with it anymore. I stopped seeing them. My partner went to family events without me. Eventually my SIL emailed me and I told her the reason why. They tried to deny it and I was made out to be the baddy (which I expected). Now if my MIL wants to see the children she has to arrange it with my partner and she has to come to our house. I feel sad it’s come to this but I don’t have to worry about going to family events anymore and put up with nasty comments and being poked fun at. My partners is accepting of this but if he wasn’t I would have left him anyway. Life is too short to spend it being around people you don’t like.

@Otherthanetta how did you know they didn't like you?
I'm getting the feeling my in-laws don't like me either. I feel they only invite me to make up numbers and aren't interested otherwise, mil visits dd weekly but has been incredibly nasty to me sly and sneaky, the others don't bother despite me trying to have a relationship with them xx

Yes of course.

No one should expect their partner to put up with abuse from the theory family just because they fall in love.

No one.

I wouldn’t be involved with someone if I couldn’t have a reasonable relationship with my in-laws.

The threads on here are warning enough. I don’t want to be constantly on high alert for fuckwittery.
