AIBU to ask for help with benefits claim? Frustrating and worried

I had covid in December, fast forward to April / May and noticed still had breathing difficulties, as this was getting worse I went to GP. Following a chest X-ray, they discovered enlarged heart / fluid and referred me to a heart failure clinic.
I haven’t been able to work since the end of June, I do t work enough hours to claim sick pay so currently just receiving basic universal credit.
As my condition had deteriorated so much and continues to, I applied for PIP back in June, I was advised to apply to ESA but not entitled to it, I was also advised to apply for a work and capability assessment so I could possibly get some extra help…I also applied for this.
I’ve never had to apply for anything like this before, so I don’t know what happens next etc. I’m just worried that it’s taking so long and all I have to manage on is £411 per month, which will be going down in october.
Can anyone offer advice? I’m early 60s so not quite sure my pension yet.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. Flowers

Get in touch with you local CAB. They will have a benefits advisor who can help you negotiate all this and ensure you're getting everything you're entitled to.

That must be such a worry OP. As pp suggested get in touch with CAB, who will be able to advise with making sure you get help with all the benefits you're entitled to, ie help with housing benefit etc.

Have you been back in touch with the hospital since your condition has deteriorated, perhaps your medication needs adjusting, are they giving you regular echocardiograms?

My stepdad applied for PIP back in January and only heard a couple of weeks ago that his application was being dealt with! Apparently there is a massive backlog.

Thank you for your kind replies.
I own my property so no hep with housing benefit needed, I do get a reduction in council tax though. CAB helped my by suggesting the 2 things I applied for and said unfortunately nothing else available unless I get really desperate where there is a local council number for help with food etc I think.
I am waiting for the echo as the first part of my heart failure clinic appointment unfortunately, but I may have to speak with GP again if it continues to get worse.
