Alcoholic family member

Posting here for traffic. I have a close family member who drinks to excess every day. He is a functioning alcoholic i.e holds down a full time job. He mentioned to me that he’s had a couple of blood tests at the GP’s and that everything is fine and they were checking for diabetes. They’ve also requested he goes back in 3 months for another blood test. I was wondering if this is normal he is not diabetic but has had abnormal liver function in the past. I don’t think he’s telling me the full story and I’m worried about his health as he’s drinking up to 20 units a day with no breaks. Has anyone had experience of this and what did you do? Thank you

You can’t do anything unfortunately. If they’re drinking that much every day then they are in a very bad place. Yes they are probably lying.

You are worried because they have asked him to go back for a test?

I have been asked to have re-tests because I am borderline for a couple of things. Or maybe he told them how much he drinks and is keeping an eye on him?

Does he think he has a problem? How old is he? Has he a partner?

Yes I’ve had a similar situation. To be honest nothing I could do apart from crack on with my own life. Sometimes following this course of action ends up better than you think but then again - no easy answers
