To think this is absolute madness

DS’s school had to cancel the prom due to ‘freedom day’. For the record I will let DS go as it is still a right of passage and I do understand how upsetting not going would be. His school prom is due to be next Friday it will be almost 300 kids and staff at the hotel and teachers and that’s before even considering after proms and other social mixing. I know of one other prom that was allowed to go ahead and it turned into a super spreader event. Our area has a bellow than average vaccination rate and hardly any of DSs mates have got the jab so I would image very few people there will be vaccinated as well as our area having a high case rate. It just seems to me to be absolute madness especially when cases are still very high in our area and the school (sixth form) will just have gone back and it seems very likely that it would turn into a super spreader. I do get that the kids would all be very disappointed but Aibu to believe this is just madness to risk taking out most of year 12 and potentially infecting siblings in other year groups as well.

Oh good, I am so glad the proms are back. It was so sad that those young people have missed out for two years.
Especially when the vast majority of sensible, vulnerable people are vaccinated and young people overwhelmingly tend not to get Covid badly anyway.

Is anyone else too distracted by the confusing/contradictory nature of the OP to actually engage here? Drives me mad when people don’t just express the issue clearly.

Then there’s another poster saying her DD’s ‘cancelled prom’ went ahead Confused If it’s cancelled, it doesn’t happen! Perhaps a postponed prom went ahead?

Communication online is fraught with enough difficulty without people directly contracting themselves!

DS and friends had the time of their life at prom which was in the summer holidays - yes a lot of them got covid but I think they would have got it at the start of term anyway. My son is a fit and healthy kid so I know it is a privilege for me to be so blasé about it, but it all turned out for the best.

BTW, it's 'rite of passage' not 'right of passage'. Fair enough if it's a misspelling, but in this context, sometimes I think people are thinking certain ceremonies and events are a 'right' - something that every young person must experience - rather than 'rites' - ceremonies young people have as they pass through certain stages of education.

Ooops many apologies for that error on my part and thanks for pointing it out Confused

However I'm sure most posters under stood what I meant without the need to point out my not so perfect use of the English language within that comment Wink

Hoho, 'tis the law that the poster picking someone up on their use of language shall themselves trip up. Surely people are contradicting themselves, not contracting themselves 😂😂.
