To keep DS off school before holiday

Going on holiday September weekend and I’m considering keeping DS (12) off school before we go (8 days) to lower our covid risk. Lots off at his school with Covid at the moment!

Hmm

I wouldn’t they’ve missed so much but you are the parent.

Mooloolabababy · 04/09/2021 23:58

Would they miss the start of the new school year? If so, then no I wouldn't.

Soupsseason · 05/09/2021 00:02

I would be inclined to not go on holiday to reduce the risk of covid & missing any more school.

Floralnomad · 05/09/2021 00:03

Why bother with school at all . .

@pinkcattydude

I wouldn’t they’ve missed so much but you are the parent.
Not all parents have their children's best interests at heart.

Not all people on the internet are who they say they are.

Scotland here so school has been back since mid August.

I’d cancel the holiday and prioritise school unless there’s a drip feed coming about particularly extenuating circumstances.

Macaroni46 · 05/09/2021 00:15

Good to know you've got your priorities right OP!!

Luzina · 05/09/2021 00:19

I’ve never taken my children out of school for a holiday because I don’t feel that it’s in their best interests. But that’s my choice for my children, based on their specific needs/experiences. You have to make this decision yourself, not based on what a load of strangers think.

gogohm · 05/09/2021 00:26

I never took mine out of school for holidays to start with however I understand why people do, but an extra 8 days is ridiculous, no you shouldn't

TheCanyon · 05/09/2021 00:39

We don't get September holidays here in the borders but from my days in Glasgow, the holidays are just thurs/Fri no?

You are absolutely being unreasonable yes.

MissCruellaDeVil · 05/09/2021 00:50

YABU to take him out during term time anyways (unless it's literally a weekend a way) , but you are definitely insane to deprive him of his education when they have already missed so much. You've had 6 (possibly 7 in certain areas) for holidays to reduce the covid risk, why not take him then?!
