Feel like I’m fighting off a cold - any tips?!

I’ve had a headache for a couple of days, feeling tired, legs really aching, feel generally rubbish, like I’m fighting off a cold that won’t properly come out!
Does anyone have any cold busting tips to make it do one?!
IVe heard Epsom bath salts are good for achy legs so going to give those a try. Got a busy few days coming up so would like to be on better form!

AluckyEllie · 04/09/2021 14:06

Those dispersible vitamin c tablets, work a treat if I have a cold or cold sore coming!

Shirleyphallus · 04/09/2021 14:07

Berroca daily always helps me

Moonmelodies · 04/09/2021 14:07

Echinacea tablets !

I can't emphasise just how effective they are.

User5827372728 · 04/09/2021 14:12

Lots of sleep, healthy food, apples, borocca and more rest and lots of water and OJ

MrsEricBana · 04/09/2021 14:20

LTF neg means not much I'd say. Hope you're better soon.

ghostyslovesheets · 04/09/2021 14:21

go for a run - exercised often chases away the beginnings of illness for me

Russell19 · 04/09/2021 14:21

First defence spray. Works for me.

GrumpyPanda · 04/09/2021 14:26

Saline rinses with a neti pot. And do an overnight sweat cure - hot bath, then go to bed with double PJs, a scarf and a couple extra blankets on top. Makes for an intensely uncomfortable night but often helps me nip colds in the bud. Even better if you're able to spend the next day mostly resting.

Fubitch · 04/09/2021 14:29

I would just take it easy with plenty of fluids, just in case it's delta. Don't push yourself.

GreenTortoise · 04/09/2021 14:30

Put Vicks on the bottom of your feet and pop a pair of socks on before you go to bed.

SusieBob · 04/09/2021 14:31

Plenty of fluids and rest. Painkillers to alieviate symptoms. Don't waste your money on things like vitamins and first defence sprays.

Homemade very strong garlic bread

Rainydays55 · 06/09/2021 12:23

Thank you for the tips everyone, PCR has come back negative but I’m still feeling pretty rubbish!

We have all been very poorly in this house for a few weeks with something nasty lingering. Family member in the ICU too it’s been harrowing.

As rough as I’ve been feeling all week I felt like I was coming down with it bad yesterday, body aches, feeling sick, head pressure. I got some vitamins from the shop and downed a berocca and it seemed to pick me up so much! Might have been a coincidence but I literally went from woefully being in a crumpled pile at the bottom of the stairs nursing my head to getting up, making tea, vacuuming the house and I even managed to perk up enough to have sex with my partner with me doing all the work for the first time in two weeks! Glorious stuff that berocca Grin

Rainydays55 · 06/09/2021 13:23

IVe not tried berroca before, maybe I should give it a go!

Rainydays55 · 06/09/2021 13:27

Is it very different to vitamin c tablets? I’ve already had one of them this morning, you probably can’t take both!?

OP posts:
Themadcatparade · 06/09/2021 13:35

I think you can take both, I take additional b12. If your body doesn’t need it it will just expel the excess via urine.

Think it’s a mixture of b vitamins and a few more vitamins. Cheaper alternatives probably have the same effect but I’ve never had something perk me up that much when I’m feeling rough before!

HarrietsChariot · 06/09/2021 14:05

Vick's First Defence spray.

Take a vitamin C tablet every hour or so. The body removes excess vitamin C so there is no point taking the soluble ones that are 1000% of your recommended daily amount. It's better taking the normal ones that are 100-200% of your RDA, but keep taking them every hour or so. Grossly excessive consumption can lead to laxative effects, as I can unfortunately testify (not that unfortunately in case you're wondering, because I was at home with access to the necessary facilities). This is more likely to be an issue with the soluble ones because they have a much higher % of RDA.

Take a vitamin D tablet every day but don't exceed the dose on this. (I mean, two a day won't hurt, but don't take 20 a day every day for the next year.)

Some people recommend whiskey and lemon, tbh I don't bother with the lemon and just have the whiskey. Not too much though, 100ml max per day (3 to 4 pub measures).

Your thread has come at the right time. I’m in the same boat. Horrendous sore throat, too. But my god, the shivers and the aching are unreal!

I’m going to drag myself out later and get the makings of some fuck-off Jewish penicillin. With extra garlic.
