To think I didn't get the job?

Had a couple of interviews for a role, got told this week that I wouldn't hear back for a couple of weeks while they meet other people.

To me that sounds like they think they have some better options but don't want to reject me just yet or seem rude rejecting me so soon after my interviews.

Thoughts please!

No...that just sounds like the other candidates' interviews are later.

@namechange30455 possibly! There's another stage though so I would have thought they would know whether or not to progress my application

You might still have a shout - people are always optimistic about how long it will take. Invariably it takes longer so don't lose hope yet!

It’s hard to say from that information. If it’s a big organisation with lots of candidates it does take time to go through the process and they can’t just stop at the first person who seems suitable. They need to interview everyone.

FawnFrenchieMum · 03/09/2021 22:01

They have declined you though which they probably would if you outright failed. It maybe that they take the top 2/3/4 candidates to the next stage, they won’t know who the top ones are until they have seen everyone. You can pass an interview but still not be the top candidate.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 03/09/2021 22:01

I think if they wanted to reject you, they'd do it. It benefits neither them nor you to keep you hanging on.

I think they probably do want to see other candidates - in case they are more suited to the role than you - but that's totally normal. It's rare to interview someone who is perfect in every way, so much so that they'll hire without checking out other options.

It really just sounds like they are following their normal recruitment process and setting your expectations about when you can expect to hear, which shows consideration.

Hoping you get to the next stage and wishing you luck Shamrock

You can never tell. They might've scheduled a meeting to discuss candidates once they've all been seen.

It’s also holiday season so the key people for making decisions could be out of the business. I wouldn’t make any assumptions right now!
