On Tuesday I had two teeth removed, however it failed and they left half of them in with the roots. They knew I have issues with my teeth crumbling and have been reffered for surgery before to avoid problems but insisted they could easily take them out.
Well she didn't, she tried everything and gave up and refered me to hospital.
I was okay till Thursday morning but since then I've been getting worse. The swelling is so big I look like I've done a round with Mike Tyson and just seems to be getting worse, the pain is ridiculously bad and my gums and face are really hot, my neck and jaw hurts to move and I am also unable to swallow food.
Rang 111 who thankfully managed to get me a hospital appointment tomorrow as they say it sounds infected, but they've told me lots of scary symptoms about it getting worse and now I'm terrified to go to sleep incase I don't wake up in the morning!
It's really bad and I have stomach cramps with it too which isn't helping I get health anxiety and this stuff scares the hell out of me. Sad
Can anyone tell me I'm being an idiot and to snap out of it? 😂

Classic signs of infection are swelling, pain, heat, and redness. You've just named three of them. I personally would go to A&E now, particularly as you're having trouble swallowing. Take care.

MrPanks · 03/09/2021 20:53

Hand hold here OP, Flowers

You are definitely not over reacting, it sounds very serious!

I feel for you, as someone whose had some awful dental problems, and is never going to really be free of them.

You did the right thing calling 111, if it gets worse tonight, don't be mucked about - get yourself to A&E - infections can spiral.

Just keep telling yourself that this time tomorrow you'll be in a much better position- having seen a specialist dentist.

Bigs hugs x

Hand hold here ❤️
Does sound like it's infected, I had an infection in my gums, my face around my lips went grey, really scary and so painful, they had to slice my gums and suck the infection out and then the dentist gave me a prescription for antibiotics which were so strong the pharmacist rang the dentist to make sure they hadn't made an error.
However, this is to put you at ease, I had serious pain for two weeks before I plucked up the courage to go to the dentist, so the infection had really taken hold, I lived to tell you this tale so don't panic I'm pretty confident you'll survive the night.
Come back and update after your appointment, good luck, be brave 💐

Flymeoutofhere · 03/09/2021 20:54

Go to A&E as it definitely sounds infected and waiting another 12 hours or so for your appointment won’t be great. Take a book and water with you as you may be in for a wait, but in your shoes I’d rather be sitting in the waiting room than panicking at home particularly if you have no one with you.

PumpkinPatch21 · 03/09/2021 20:57

I'm trying to hold off as I'm scared they'll turn me away and say there's nothing they can do! Luckily I'm having all of my teeth out so hopefully this will be the last time this happens! It hurts so badly. Done the salt water trick took strong pain killers and nothing is touching it.

Horrendous. Go to A&E, you are not overreacting.

Piccalino3 · 03/09/2021 21:01

OP, you need to go to A&E. Please don't put it off, if you have a fat face it could compromise your airway. A&E will take it seriously. Please go tonight.

mommybear1 · 03/09/2021 21:01

Handhold here OP I hope you can get the pain at least sorted soon Thanks

HisSplendidSilentSun · 03/09/2021 21:03

Lovely listen. You have a unanimous vote here to get thee gone to A&E. That is what they are for, accidents and EMERGENCIES which is what this is.
Just go. Now.

Badtasteflump · 03/09/2021 21:04

Going on my own experience I would definitely either go to A&E or see an out of hours GP (or dentist?). A dental infection can lead to sepsis which is a serious medical emergency and you cannot predict if or when it might happen. I am not medically trained but became very ill with this so would always urge anybody with your symptoms to definitely not 'wait and see'.

Mavisisnotmyname · 03/09/2021 21:36

You are definitely not being an idiot. Please go to A&E, you need antibiotics NOW. Don't wait until tomorrow. I'm NHS.

glasgowLil · 03/09/2021 21:42

Definitely go to a&e. If you are in a lot of pain, you won’t get any sleep at home so sitting in a waiting room won’t make much difference - take water and book and your phone charger. Hugs xxx

Cryalot2 · 03/09/2021 21:56

Flowers hand hold . Poor you, hopefully you are at A&E. You sound as though you have infection

Matleave22 · 03/09/2021 21:58

Another vote for go to A&E, sounds like a serious infection which could become sepsis. Go tonight, don’t wait

Wolfiefan · 03/09/2021 22:01

My husband had an attempted extraction nearly two weeks ago. Broken tooth and needs surgery. He was given antibiotics to take. It’s been sore but no more than needing to take paracetamol. A and E. Definitely. Hope you get some decent pain relief too OP.

chickychicchic · 03/09/2021 22:06

Please go to a&e infections in the jaw can spread easily they won't think you are over reacting

Want2beme · 03/09/2021 22:22

A&E will help you now and you can attend the hospital appointment tomorrow as well. I'm currently experiencing dental problems, and I know how awful dental pain and infections are. I had a big tooth extracted by my dentist this week, but apart from a little bit of pain, it's settling down. Even though my dentist cleared out the infection, it's still going to take 6 months for it to fully heal. Don't put yourself through this when there's medical staff who'll help you get better.

DaraTheTeapot · 03/09/2021 22:29

@Piccalino3

OP, you need to go to A&E. Please don't put it off, if you have a fat face it could compromise your airway. A&E will take it seriously. Please go tonight.
I Got properly told off going to a and e a few years ago with my airways compromised told I was a time waster and should have waited and seen the gp!

I had an infected uvula and it was so swollen it was blocking my throat and kept almost choking me they were horrible though and told me to leave it was awful

Want2beme · 03/09/2021 22:41

Bloody hell, did you report this?

I've only been to A&E once as an adult, with a cat bite, and they couldn't have been nicer to me. I apologised for going, but was told that that's what A&E is all about.

OP how are you doing?
