To just do “up the nose” for my son’s covid test?

Last time when I did the throat - it was horrific and he vomited
Very very sensitive gage reflex

I have heard just up the nose sufficient

Thoughts?

Yes I'd do that

BanginChoons · 03/09/2021 07:27

Well I just did the throat as my son suffers from nosebleeds, and that did the job so..

Sparklingbrook · 03/09/2021 07:28

The first lateral flow test box I got was nose and throat. The last one I got was nose only so assume that’s ok.

My daughter works in a private test centre, and does this with very distressed children. It suffices and she has never had an inconclusive result.

I took my Ds for a PCR (he's 8 and fainted last time he had to do a test) they told me to just do it up his nose.

MyCatEatsPrawnCrackers · 03/09/2021 07:30

Yes that'll be fine.

From my LFT instructions

To just do “up the nose” for my son’s covid test?
TreaslakeandBack · 03/09/2021 07:32

I did nose only testing DS when I had Covid. He was positive (asymptomatic) so nose only must be enough.

What a wonderful wonderful relief

Thank you so much

I only do nose testing on both my DD and myself. We’ve always got a definitive result doing that.

unfortunateevents · 03/09/2021 07:39

The last two boxes of LFT tests I received were both specifically up the nose only. I thought the throat and nose ones were no longer being distributed anyway?

Shark2020 · 03/09/2021 07:40

My daughter went yesterday to school for her lateral flow and said it was now just five seconds up each nostril, no swabbing of the tonsils any longer.

dementedpixie · 03/09/2021 07:41

We have boxes of the nose/throat ones from the school although it says you can do both nostrils anyway

MinnieMountain · 03/09/2021 07:43

DS has had 5 successful tests on nose only.

Imnothereforthedrama · 03/09/2021 07:44

I believe there are ones that are just up the nose now anyway . I think it’s be fine too any.

Saracen · 03/09/2021 07:49

I've just resigned myself to doing the nose only with my special-needs teen. She just can't manage to give me access to her throat. Be sure to do both nostrils.

I expect that with a nose-only test we will get slightly less accurate results than if we could do both throat and nose. But we have to go with what we can manage.

olderthanyouthink · 03/09/2021 07:51

DD 2.5 has had so many tests and I've never done her throat and never been told to. One of the more recent ones she was distressed by and we were told one nostril for 5-10 seconds was enough and the last one I did was prob only 5 secs in each side.
