To not go the doctors/hospital

I visited the dentist today for 3 fillings and unfortunately on my way out I fell down about ten marble stairs hitting my tailbone on each step as I went. At first I couldn’t move and my vision was blurred and ringing was in my ears, I managed to reach my phone and called the dentist to come down they got me water and lifted my legs up and after about 30 minutes my vision came back and the ringing stopped and they managed to put me in the lift back upstairs and lay me down. I am now just in pain where I hit my tailbone as I fell. My partner and family are telling me to go to the doctors however I’ve been looking online and even if it was a broken tailbone it seems there’s no real fix for this other than time. I therefore don’t want to waste someone’s time with an x ray etc if nothing more can be done. AIBU to not bother getting it checked? I don’t want to waste any doctors time.

Poor you! Of course you must go to the hospital. Get your partner to drive you there now. I would take some snacks and tablet.

Haggisfish3 · 31/08/2021 21:03

Of course you need to go to check you haven’t got concussion or damaged your spine.

monkeysox · 31/08/2021 21:03

Depends if you're supposed to be working this week?
Probably best to have this in your records. What if you get worse?

Toomuchis · 31/08/2021 21:04

Go and get checked. Friend fell on their tailbone slipping in the shower. Ignored it for days until they started being incontinent - they'd fractured their spine well above the tail.

Get ye to a&e. Now.

Avanacho · 31/08/2021 21:04

That sounds like concussion. I would call 111 and see what they say. Hope you’re
Feeling better soon

Regularsizedrudy · 31/08/2021 21:06

Do you have a pattern of avoiding medical treatment?

UserNameNameNameUser · 31/08/2021 21:06

You know you need to get it checked out.

toughdaay · 31/08/2021 21:09

You had blurred vision for 30 mins and you're not sure if you should see a dr? 🤨

NeverDropYourMooncup · 31/08/2021 21:12

Traumatic spinal injury, possibly a compression fracture - hospital

Traumatic head injury with visual disturbances - hospital

You need to go to A&E. If it turns out it's a simple coccyx fracture, all well and good, but it could very easily not be.

kitkatsky · 31/08/2021 21:13

I broke my tailbone- at the very least go to get some proper pain relief

Bridgetjones92 · 31/08/2021 21:23

Sorry if I’m being silly here. I just thought as my vision has cleared up and ringing stopped and I am able to walk (in pain) that maybe it’s just badly bruised or a broken tailbone which online pretty much says just to take pain killers for it.

Bridgetjones92 · 31/08/2021 21:24

I will call 111 now

Haggisfish3 · 31/08/2021 21:36

Why bother 111? Just go to a and e-you had an accident.

wonkylegs · 31/08/2021 21:41

Coincidentally I fell down the stairs this morning. I was however picked up and checked over by DH who is a dr.
I had mild concussion, I haven't been to be checked out further but I had a list of symptoms to watch out for and was checked up on periodically to make sure I was ok.
I hurt a lot and have some muscle strain but definitely no broken bones however I hit my hip (well padded), arm and head rather than my backside and mine was carpeted stairs.
I would if you have serious pain I would get it checked out, you wouldn't be wasting time but may be in for a bit of a wait as it's not likely to be urgent so be prepared. If you are still suffering from blurry vision or headache please tell them that too.

Moraxella · 31/08/2021 21:43

Did you trip down the stairs or did the dizziness and ringing precede the fall?

GoodnightGrandma · 31/08/2021 21:43

I think I broke my tailbone once, fell off a stool onto my bum.DH was annoyed at me for something so I didn’t go to A&E.
It took me 6 weeks to be able to sit properly.

Marcee · 31/08/2021 21:51

I doubt 111 could do much.
I think you need a possible xray.
So minor injuries unit/ urgent care centre or a and e

Betsybanshee · 31/08/2021 22:45

Presume 111 will just ask you to attend A&E anyway.. i would just go straight there.

Boredhimtodeath · 31/08/2021 22:58

Glad you are having it checked. As depressing as it sounds, if something comes of it you need a record.

Merryoldgoat · 31/08/2021 23:08

Ffs - this ‘don’t want to bother the doctor’ stuff is so daft.

Imagine you saw your friend fall like that? You’d have her in the car to A&E without hesitation.

HollowTalk · 31/08/2021 23:10

When you have had a shock like that you are not the right person to make a decision about whether to go to hospital or not. Listen to others. It sounds horrific and I hope you feel better soon.

notapizzaeater · 31/08/2021 23:40

It sounds horrific, you need the break checking to make sure that's all it is. I broke mine when I was 8, I remember having to take a 'doughnut' cushion to school for weeks

Bridgetjones92 · 01/09/2021 22:54

Hey everyone didn’t want to not update. I went this morning for X-rays. I have a small break on my tailbone. Unfortunately no real fix for it other than sitting on a ring cushion and prescribed strong pain killers. Doctor said the other symptoms may have been caused by shock.
I’m feeling a lot better today than yesterday but guessing that’s the painkillers at work. Thanks for all your advice.
