To be devastated at having to WFH again

turkeyburgers · 31/08/2021 18:18

I work for a call centre, went back in briefly a couple of weeks ago before close family tested positive for covid (not me). 5 days sitting on my own at the dining table with my back killing me. 1 more week at home, and back to the office yesterday and today. 3 tested positive for covid again. Sent home until Monday and possibly to self isolate if I test positive. AIBU to be devastated as I hate working from home and feel this pattern will just continue to happen?

OP posts:

Yanbu. Most homes are not set up for office working.

SirSamuelVimes · 31/08/2021 18:21

Yanbu. WFH sucks for most people.

magsbagsfags · 31/08/2021 18:21

Close contacts don't have to isolate anymore. So you could have been at work if you are vaccinated.

Fivefourthreetwo · 31/08/2021 18:23

I absolutely love WFH and would do it permanently if I could

Knittingupastorm · 31/08/2021 18:24

We’re able to wfh and still are 50% of the time. I don’t think my manager would want anyone in who was a contact, regardless of current guidelines. OP’s workplace may be the same.

I like wfh, but if you don’t, YANBU to be upset. I know it’s hard for some people.

RickJames · 31/08/2021 18:24

I understand, I quit my professional job over WFH and am now applying for factory work because I just need to be out of the house and with other humans.

I bloody hate WFH.

And me @Fivefourthreetwo
Hekatestorch · 31/08/2021 18:26

It must be really awful if you hate wfh and having to do it.

Is it all people you live with that keep testing positive? Surely, they all can't keep testing positive. So it will let up.

If the second lot of 3 people are at work, we're you even in close contact?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 31/08/2021 18:26

It does suck you’re right. Hopefully not for too much longer Flowers

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 31/08/2021 18:27

Yes some people love it but it doesn’t invalidate the experience of those who hate it.

FrownedUpon · 31/08/2021 18:28

‘Devastated’ is a bit over the top. Look at what’s going on for other people on the planet. You have a job, a home…

Chicchicchicchiclana · 31/08/2021 18:28

Yanbu to dislike wfh op. I hear you.

turkeyandmash · 31/08/2021 18:41

Frowned upon, it's absolutely over the top I agree. I'm thankful. Just that in NI cases are going up and it feels like we'll never get out of this mess!

turkeyandmash · 31/08/2021 18:41

WFH is so isolating to me, I hope this isn't the future going forward.

turkeyandmash · 31/08/2021 18:42

I hope so gurtrude

turkeyandmash · 31/08/2021 18:44

Hekatestorch, it was some really close family who don't live with me, but I had been around.so had to test and 10 days isolation living by myself. Didn't have it myself and they've recovered thankfully. Now is some colleagues

Theunamedcat · 31/08/2021 18:44

Get a proper chair? Seriously your not ill just isolating

turkeyandmash · 31/08/2021 18:45

I wasn't in close contact with the 3 colleagues, but our office was shut until Monday

turkeyandmash · 31/08/2021 18:45

The unnamed cat, I do have a proper chair from work, it just doesn't have any support. I should be thankful I haven't had it

Anothernamechange3 · 31/08/2021 18:46

I think your workplace have a duty to make sure your back isn’t killing from sitting in a dining chair. Have you been asked to complete a work station self assessment (recommended by hse)? I work for a small non profit and we’re still providing proper office chairs/additional screens etc to ensure people have appropriate equipment, just as we have to in the office. Is there anyone at work you can ask about this, as at least it will make things a little more comfortable for you.

Aggy35 · 31/08/2021 18:47

Love working from home...

StMarysKettle · 31/08/2021 18:47

Devastated is being way over dramatic

IceLace100 · 31/08/2021 18:48

Get an office chair.

Don't eff your back up.

Chin up. Will be ok.

Anothernamechange3 · 31/08/2021 18:48

If the chair from work doesn’t have support they need to get you a different one. The DSE checklist on the health and safety executive has multiple criteria for a chair to be considered supportive (fits small of back/feet on floor/arms/adjustable etc.

Brilliant 👏.

The OP hates it though, and she’s not unreasonable to feel that way.
I think a lot of people don’t realise that some people’s homes just aren’t cut out for having people working in them full time. Shared living spaces, no room for a dedicated work station etc. I used to WFH permanently, long before Covid. Loved it for a couple of years but after years of essentially living at work it took its toll. I’d never choose to do it again.
