Just been to an appointment and realised I do something weird every time I do a urine sample. I always wrap it in toilet paper before traipsing back through the waiting room like no one has ever seen the colour of urine before!! Blush

Wear a dress for smear test/coil fitting, but then wear tights anyway....tbf last time I went in jeans as I had a walk.

Also attempting to look suitably ill/miserable to somewhat justify being there and taking up a precious appointment.

Another who tries to look more shit than I already do whilst being ill 😂

I'd my DC have an appointment, then I always spend longer on my hair and make up, wear smartish clothes and carry a nice bag so they don't think I'm a lazy feckless parent

Get myself all worked up as I convince myself that the doctor I’m seeing won’t understand or will minimise any issues.

I’m 48 and it’s never happened, but I do it every time!

When I am going for the results of biopsies, I always wear my highest fanciest heels ( I call them my kick ass shoes), and so far i've always had semi good news. A few of the nurses and a Consultant have commented on them which is always nice.

I figure if I'm wearing kick ass shoes, I can cope with what ever news they throw at me, good or bad lol

I have doctor appointment pants. It doesn't matter if I'll be getting my kit off or not. Proper pants must be worn, even though I hate them and only wear thongs usually.

Maybe this is where I'm going wrong, I always try to look as nice as possible, and the doctors never seem to understand or completely minimise what's wrong with me. I was in absolute agony with apendecitis and the doctor told me I was fine and to try a "light diet" for a few weeks.

Use my 'headteacher voice' and crowbar in my professional status as early as possible, to try to pre-empt any patronising nonsense.

lovelybitofsquirrell · 31/08/2021 14:59

awkwardly try and hide my knickers when taking them off for a smear.

like the nurse cares what colour my thong is when she will see my cervix in 30 seconds ??

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 31/08/2021 16:01

I’m similar to you with wrapping the sample in loo roll, but it’s more because I want to add another layer of protection against the doctor / nurse “touching urine”

When I go for a depression review I have a strange panic about what I’m wearing. I don’t want to look too together in case they don’t believe I’m really struggling but don’t want to look too much of a mess because it’s the doctor’s and you can’t.
