Dangerous driving

I was on the motorway this morning and a car kept swerving into my lane. I had to use the horn and when I looked the driver was looking and texting on his mobile phone. He saw that I had saw what he had been doing. It shook me up that someone was so dangerous at 70 mph. He slowed right down and then decided to catch me up at the exit which I didn’t like. I got the car reg and could see on his dashboard that it was a car with a red and white number plate being taken to a dealership. I could not get the red and white plate details. Is it possible to report this? I just find it dangerous that he was doing this.

Yes you can report but the police won't do anything as they don't have any evidence.

For future reference would dashcam footage be sufficient?

You could join the police force get yourself assigned to traffic.

We reported a driver on the phone, hogging the middle lane with no other traffic about, with photographic evidence.
The only way the police would pursue was if we attended court as a witness.
I would have gladly done that had it not been 100's of miles from home.

I see this all the time - my car is one of those chelsea tractors everyone on MN hates so I can see down into quite a lot of cars on the motorway - my estimate is 10-20% of people are texting or using a phone.

Some Police forces seem to take dashcam footage as evidence but only for the most egregious offences.

I agree OP it's awful, but there doesn't seem to be a will to do anything to properly enforce this and many other laws.

The police won’t do anything.

The police won't do anything not because they can't be bothered but because there's zero evidence.
