Collecting a moses basket on a bicycle

HalloweenBaby21 · 31/08/2021 12:03

OH thought it would be a breeze and didn't want to drive for the sake of 2 miles.

He's just called me expressing great inconvenience and disbelief at the fact he's struggling to ride back with it.

Was I being unreasonable to laugh?

Laugh first, then sort out recording equipment and wait on the doorstep til he pedals back. Lol

BananaMilkshakeWithCream · 31/08/2021 12:19

😂 The question is…was the baby in it??!!!

megletthesecond · 31/08/2021 12:22

Walking would have been easier.

He probably looks like Frank Spencer trying to balance it down the street.

HalloweenBaby21 · 31/08/2021 12:23

No baby in it but it's a big bulky one complete with a solid wooden rocking stand that doesn't fold 😂

For a smart man he seriously lacks common sense sometimes. Poor sod.

It’s better than the 55” TV that I saw someone had just purchased from John Lewis and was trying to get home on their bicycle Grin

Confused102 · 31/08/2021 12:26

Lol hahaha. Please do as first poster suggested.

ohidoliketobe · 31/08/2021 12:27

If it's one if the traditional ones with handles I've got a mental image of him looping his arms through and carrying it backpack style with the full stand held with one hand

RedMarauder · 31/08/2021 12:28

We once took a 6 foot Christmas tree home in a two seater, in the rain, it was wedged between my legs, it became an in-joke that my legs could open so wide! We also collected a roll of carpet, it was rolled so that if was 8 foot tall but at least it wasn't raining quite as hard and I drove that time, it was only a short distance though, he got off easily.

That was my mental picture too, having travelled in India it would have seemed to be a breeze.
MatildaTheCat · 31/08/2021 13:23

Send him a video of an entire family plus a goat or two and a selection of fresh produce all balanced on a bike, you see it all the time in some countries.🤣

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 31/08/2021 13:29

I admire his environmentalism.

And his comedy value.

safariboot · 31/08/2021 15:06

Well, he'll know for next time he wants to transport something awkward by bike.

But two miles is oh well, get off and walk territory anyway. Hopefully he's not wearing the kind of shoes you can't walk in.

Angryfrommanchester1 · 31/08/2021 15:08

Grin he is to be congratulated on his commitment to the environment though!

lanthanum · 31/08/2021 15:36

I've carried a Moses basket backpack style on my bike - with a sleeping bag or similar rolled up inside it, if I remember correctly. It worked remarkably well.
But not the stand as well, even a folding one.

Tooembarrassingtomention · 31/08/2021 15:39

I have seen an ox on a moped- so I would say very possible.

Was it a good driver? And did it wear a helmet?
FelicityBeedle · 31/08/2021 15:48

I admire his dedication to the cause, and if you presumably didn’t need the basket, I wouldn’t be really hoping it would start pissing down about now

girlmom21 · 31/08/2021 15:50

Can you post a picture when he's back? Just of the basket...

I'm going to guess that whatever carrying method he used, there's a much simpler solution Grin

SturminsterNewton · 31/08/2021 16:04

I'm imagining him looking like a pedalling Ninja Turtle with a wicker shell.

ThePersonFromPorlock · 31/08/2021 16:17

🤣🤣

Years ago DP bought an expensive turntable from some bloke and, since neither of us drove at the time and he was too fecking miserly to order a taxi, he took it home on the bus. There was some sort of liquid in the mechanism which wasn't supposed to be spilled as it could damage the turntable. He was like a one man funeral procession picking his way up the street with this big, bulky box held out precariously in front of him. Plonker!

Greenandcabbagelooking · 31/08/2021 16:19

OP (and OP's husband). I'm having a shit day and this had cheered me up. Thank you so much.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 31/08/2021 16:20

Amazing! Definitely NBU to laugh.

We sold a pool table (not full size but not miniature either) and the person collected it in a 3 door, small hatchback. There were 3 other people in the car too. Really not sure what they were thinking.

FelicityBeedle · 31/08/2021 16:35

I’ve just remembered I won a hamper once when on my bike, the prizes fitted in my backpack but not the actual wicker basket. I threaded my helmet straps through the handles and put the helmet on as normal. It worked but god knows what I looked like

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 31/08/2021 17:06

Don't moses baskets have handles? Wear it like a backpack.
