hi im a single parent on a low income and i am discussed that schools want certain uniform brands e.g for p.e it has to be mcneils shorts and t-shirts that are 20 pound an item. i have just got my son to try on his uniform and when he started high last year i paid over hundred pound for all his unifrom and he didnt use it all because of this covid with them being in n out of school. now he starts in year 8 he has had a growth spurt i have had to pay again over hundred pound again for uniform. why cant the schools let us get the cheap t-shirts and shorts of our children and just let us buy the name brand of the school like the blazers and the tie then people know what school they r from y does all the uniform have to be dear for all of us.

I'm in Scotland and the only school specific items I need to buy is a blazer (£35) tie (£6) and pair of royal blue PE shorts at about £7. All other clothing can be bought from supermarkets or other shops.

You might like to look at the many threads on this subject over the past couple of weeks. Lots of discussion.

I appreciate what you are saying, as it does unfairly impact low income households. Does your local authority have a scheme whereby it helps low income families with the cost of school uniform?

Uniform banks and Facebook selling for a lot of stuff here. Can you sell his old uniform to recoup some of what you’ve Pent?
