To be worried about this dream

FiFi45 · 31/08/2021 07:11

I suffer from health anxiety and I am going through some medical tests/waiting for results.

Last night I had a dream that all my teeth fell out, woke up and googled to find out it can mean death. I'm so worried, I can't stop panicking and feel very tearful.

I've had this dream (apparently it's a common one) at least 20 times in my life and I'm still here so I'd say not.

Do you believe in dream interpretations normally or is it just because your anxiety is sky high at the moment that you're attributing more importance to this dream?

RedHelenB · 31/08/2021 07:16

Are you dead yet? The dream will be right though because we all are going to die. But you, like me won't know when.

MyOtherProfile · 31/08/2021 07:17

It's just a dream. It doesn't mean anything. Dreams are just the overspill of things we have seen and done and thought of. It's far more likely to be a sign that you are worrying than a prophecy that you're about to die.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 31/08/2021 07:18

The brain uses dreams to process emotions and fears. The dream is a representation of what you are worrying about not what will happen.

DrSbaitso · 31/08/2021 07:19

I have that dream all the time. It doesn't mean death, it's a classic anxiety dream. I've been having it since my teens. Had it last week.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 31/08/2021 07:19

That’s one of the most common dreams there is.

Sorry to break it to you but you are going to die, just like everyone else. Previous to the dream presumably you didn’t think you were immortal?

But chances are you won’t die for ages and ages. No one can predict their own death with a random dream about teeth.

Thethreecs · 31/08/2021 07:20

I have this often, it's too do with the fear of loss. Not necessarily death more loosing something in our lives. You could be subconsciously worried about loosing your good health.

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 31/08/2021 07:20

It's a very common dream. I've had it loads of times. Not for a few years though and I'm still here! It's just a stress dream IMO.

StateOfTheUterus · 31/08/2021 07:21

I’ve had this dream several times too. It’s definitely anxiety related for me and i think related to change in my life. So not literal death but the end of a phase?

MerryHellbreakingloose · 31/08/2021 07:21

I have this dream all the time.

FiFi45 · 31/08/2021 07:22

My anxiety at the moment is so high. I'm awaiting some tests results from hospital and have been thinking about death and have a fear of leaving my young dc and dh.

I dream that all the time, I have since I was very young! I'm 40 now and still here.

I thought to dream about teeth falling out was a general anxiety dream a bit like dreaming about falling or being in public with no clothes?- I have had this when I have I am stressed
WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 31/08/2021 07:33

I've had that dream before, I always heard it was something to do with money worries

Oh you poor thing. Fingers crossed for you Flowers

As others have said it’s an incredibly common dream, often linked to anxiety and, I believe, a feeling of a loss of control, which makes perfect sense given how you’re feeling.

CoalCraft · 31/08/2021 07:39

This is a recurring dream for me whenever I'm feeling uncertain or not in complete control in life. Been having it since childhood and haven't died yet Hmm

Dreams can't predict the future.

Spidey66 · 31/08/2021 07:43

I have had that as a recurring dream since my teens.

I'm now 55.

Make of that what you will. It's an extremely common dream.

GreenTortoise · 31/08/2021 07:44

No that's not what it means.

When you dream your teeth are falling out it's usually because you're worried in general. Usually about money.

Myfanwyprice · 31/08/2021 07:48

I understand completely why you feel unsettled, it is a really horrible dream, when I have it, it leaves me feeling strange for a couple of days.

As others have said it’s a classic anxiety dream, I thought it was to do with losing control, which would tie in with waiting for test results which is something you can’t control.

Take time and be kind to yourself.

SquirryTheSquirrel · 31/08/2021 07:52

If your dreams are worrying you, you might be interested in this book. It gives psychological interpretations of the most common dreams (including the teeth one which I've often had). I wasn't 100% convinced by all of them, but it does debunk the 'supernatural' interpretations such as a particular thing signifying death.

I used to have recurring dreams that my teeth fell out - it’s a stress dream.
Hope you get some help for your anxiety.

CatMandarin · 31/08/2021 07:59

I'd heard it was about fear of growing older

Stakhanovite · 31/08/2021 08:04

Oh yeah. I get this all the time, except my teeth are coming loose rather than falling all the way out, and I'm trying to keep them from dislodging. As PP said: classic stress dream.

happydays2345 · 31/08/2021 08:10

Yeah, see, I got told it meant fear of getting old
