To want to kick DH

(Lighthearted)

On holiday as wanted DH and I to spend quality time with DS (3) before baby"s arrival (37weeks pregnant).

The cottage only has one bedroom so DS' bed is right next to ours. He got woken up at 3am by DH's snoring and megal loud shuffling (we both did).

It took him over an hour to get back to sleep as everytime I could hear him nodding off DH made a loud random noise again as he remained peacefully asleep.

Both asleep now and I'm wide awake with a baby now doing somersaults on my bladder. I'm so uncomfortable but darent go for a wee in case I wake DS again. I'm also so on edge about them waking each other up again I jump up everytime someone moves.

I have had a grand total of 2 hours sleep as I thought staying up late with DH for once would be lovely.

FML, happy holiday to me!

Also awake thanks to DH, so yes, kick away!

I’m considering smothering with a pillow, currently. 4:32am, what joy.

Happyholidays15 · 31/08/2021 04:35

They are so frustrating! He'll be fresh as a daisy tomorrow and say to DS "you've had a great sleep havent you". Completely oblivious.

I had an hour of "mummy, [insert random question here]" because the poor child couldn't sleep despite best efforts!

I'm also awake as I have a cold and a terrible itchy throat/cough. DH is sleeping in the spare room due to my cough but just came bursting in to ask where the new loo roll was. He needed a poo and there's no loo roll in his bathroom. Ffs it's 4:20am and who needs a poo in the middle of the night anyway!? 😡

Could you poss make DSs bed up in the bathroom or on the landing?

Happyholidays15 · 31/08/2021 04:43

Oh my god @brazenandstrange your DH wins!! At least mine doesn't know what he's doing!

Managed an escape for a weeand taking myself to the sofa downstairs in the hope I'll manage another couple of hours. Hopefully DS should stay asleep he's usually a great sleeper. It's actually a sofa bed, perhaps DH and I (or DH alone!) can do it up and use that tomorrow!

I sympathise so hard. Currently away with my husband and baby. Between the overtired baby waking every couple of hours and my husbands snoring and hypnic jerks I haven’t slept a wink.

I’m making it a rule of going away from now on that wherever we stay has to have at least 2 rooms!

heygirlhey · 31/08/2021 05:07

Currently been awake for 3 hours...pregnancy insomnia at 37 weeks. DF moved into the guest room about 2 months ago because of my congestion/snoring and constant tossing/turning so I can't blame anyone. Really hope I can get to sleep soon!

DifficultBloodyWoman · 31/08/2021 05:24

Oooo! I have a plan!

Spoon DH, that way you tell him that baby kicked him, not you.

You have my sympathies.

Happyholidays15 · 31/08/2021 06:09

@BaringasMare "hypnic jerks" is such a good description!! good luck, sounds tough! I usually have this rule too, but there wasn't much available and I thought it would be OK. We did it a few months ago and it all worked out, but our bed didn't touch DS's then so he couldn't feel the earthquake DH creates everytime he moves...

@heygirlhey urgh hope you get some sleep. I surprised myself falling asleep as soon as I got on the sofa but randomly woke again 45minutes later. Late pregnancy is hard! Kind of want to give up and try again tomorrow.

I can hear DH shuffling and DS getting unsettled again. Holding my breath he stays asleep so we don't have a cranky toddler all day tomorrow on top of my own tiredness.

I would maybe do something together in the morning then after lunch send them both out for some father and son time while you have a nap. Or send them out all day and you have a couple of naps! They have to go out though, no 'playing quietly' downstairs.

In the longer term if the snoring is a long term thing he needs to get an assessment to see if there is anything that can be done, it isn't healthy for you or him.

Happyholidays15 · 31/08/2021 07:39

Thanks @cattitudes the thing is it's really our only full day here, only having a short stay to make sure I don't get into labour here :). So I'll have to push through for a full day of fun! His snoring is really on and off but usually I sleep right through even when it's bad. But definitely can't sleep when DS isn't.

So DS woke again at 6.30 and DH proceeded to get him up, open all the blinds... had to go up and say actually we need more sleep as you've kept us up! So we all went back to bed for a bit, but you guessed it... only DH went back to sleep. Infuriating!

Ds barely slept 8 hours when he usually has 11 or 12. It's going to be chaos.

I would still chuck them out, but then I love my sleep! Maybe send them out for breakfast and pick you up at 10, bringing a bacon buttie with them.

heygirlhey · 31/08/2021 20:43

Hope everyone got some sort of sleep in the end. I managed to drop off at the back of 5 but have been exhausted all day and napped in between meetings. Don't know how you ladies do it with other children to look after, hats off to you!

Happyholidays15 · 01/09/2021 10:01

I managed the day without a nap somehow (pure adrenaline!) But went to bed at 10.30pm last night and slept until 5am this morning. Never thought waking at 5am would ever feel like I've had a good night's sleep but after the 2 hour fiasco of the night before I'm not complaining!

DS stayed asleep til 7 so I rested for another couple of hours as well. He slept right through without making a sound as I had sent DH to the sofabed downstairs so he wasn't disturbed!

Hope you don't have much longer at work @heygirlhey. I'm spoit really as I finished last week and from tomorrow when we get home DS will be going to nursery as normal so I should have a couple of weeks with entire days to myself and plan on napping loads!

@Happyholidays15 I have until next Friday but tbh it's already wound right down, I'm wfh and my replacement for the year started today. Last night was much better, slept for about 4 hrs before needing the bathroom then another 3hr before getting up again, feeling more like myself today!
