Covid - isolation ?

DP had mild flu like symptoms since last week (Sunday). He said it wasn’t covid and refused to take a PCR so I took 2 x LF tests over a couple of days = both negative.

However, yesterday he started coughing and I convinced him to take a lateral flow which came back positive. My (third) Lf is negative but I’ve booked a PCR for tomorrow because his LF is positive.

Meanwhile we are both isolating but DP won’t take a PCR and I’m confused about how long I need to isolate for? Is it 10 days from the first symptom (fever last Sunday) or 10 days since yesterday (DP positive LF test)?

Pls - no comments on why he won’t take PCR. That’s a huge issue between us right now. I just want to make sure I isolate properly and NHS website is confusing me.

Thank you

Are you double vaccinated?

Smurf123 · 30/08/2021 00:04

Are you fully vaccinated?
The nhs website says 10 days from onset on symptoms or positive pcr test but it should only be from the 3 main symptoms as in theory he could have had the cold then caught covid .. so since he's refusing to take a pcr test I would guess you have to start your 10 days from his positive lateral flow test
But if your fully vaccinated they say you just need to do tests on day 2 and day 5 and if they are negative you can carry on as normal without isolating
Or at least that's my understanding of it currently

It’s ten days from when his symptoms first started

It should be ten full days from his cough. You should be informing people who you've had contact with.

Ponoka7 · 30/08/2021 00:05

I took for granted that you wasn't jabbed.

Whitedressparis · 30/08/2021 00:06

Sorry! Should have added that important info: No, I’m not double jabbed yet - second due at the end of sept.

Luckily both work from home and haven’t socialised recently. I met up with a friend last week and have already let her know.

According to current rules, with positive LFT, your DP is required to take a PCR. If he won't do that for whatever reason, he is required to assume he has Covid which means isolsring for 10 days from the positive test. He also needs to register his positive LFT on the website. All this applies regardless of if he is vaccinated.

For you, if you're double jabbed you're not required to isolate at all (though might be a good idea as you are living in the same house so having continued contact. If you're not fully vaccinated you have to isolate for 10 days from his LFT.

Hopefully your DP will see sense once the reality of a positive LFT sinks in
