DHL incorrect value - £200 in VAT

Hi. I will try to keep this brief. I ordered costume jewellery from North America. It cost £103 including shipping. I was shocked to get a notice from DHL that I owed £200 in VAT… I phoned DHL and they told me the seller had (incorrectly) valued the shipment at £840 (values estimated). I certainly don’t want to pay £300 for these products. I’ve notified both companies & they both claim to have escalated it but from what I can see is the package has entered the uk (dhl said it wouldn’t while they investigated it but it has) and I don’t know what to do. It is scheduled to be delivered on Weds and I will be unable to deal with the issue until Tuesday afternoon as I’m away with work with no communication tomorrow.

Obviously the worst outcome is I refuse the package and get nothing but dhl might still chase me for the incorrect vat. I don’t know how to proceed - I may owe some vat but certainly not that amount. I paid by PayPal. I don’t care intensely about the products but i don’t want to be out their value & still be charged the vat! Help, please.
