To complain about the photo?

Recently passed my driving test and have received my pink license.

My photo is the same one as my on provisional license, which was taken in 2018. The problem is that they have printed the same photo on my new license weirdly, to the extent that it doesn’t even look like me. It’s a lot darker to the extent that my hair/eyes/lips look a different colour and I genuinely look like a different ethnicity. It’s like they’ve enhanced the shadows, my lips and cheekbones look more prominent

Would you complaint and ask them to reprint? I’m thinking nothing may come of this though

I wouldn't bother unless you will regularly need it to prove age etc.

genericuserneeded · 29/08/2021 15:52

I’m early 20s so use it for ID frequently

They will just roll their eyes at you. Of course they will use the same picture that's on your provisional.

genericuserneeded · 29/08/2021 15:56

It’s the same photo but there’s clearly been a printing error

Wait and see if it causes a problem - if it doesn't, it doesn't matter.

Toottooot · 29/08/2021 15:58

Is the photo not black and white? I’ve recently received a new photo card and the photo was the one from my provisional way back but it’s look black and white to me?

bigbluebus · 29/08/2021 15:59

My photo makes me look like a ghost as I have blonde hair and fair skin so you can only really see my features (eyes, nose, mouth). Never been a problem. Doubt they'd be interested in changing it - especially given the huge backlog currently at DVLA for anything other than online applications.

NigellaSeed · 29/08/2021 16:02

Can they see your nose in the photo? A bouncer once told me he just checks the noses match

OverweightPidgeon · 29/08/2021 16:03

It’s a driving license not the cover of Vogue x My passport photo looks nothing like me and it’s never been an issue. See if anyone questions it when showing it as ID , if they don’t, I’d leave it.

Also I am 32 and my drivers license is still a passport photo of me when I was 15

Is it? I thought you had to renew your photo every 10 years? I had a letter recently about renewing my photo and as I have a passport they used my passport photo.

TeenMinusTests · 29/08/2021 16:22

With the DVLA being hit by industrial action and 10s of 1000s of things being delayed, I'd count yourself lucky you've got it at all.

No, you have to update your driving licence but you can use the one on your passport. Dd has her passport one, taken when she was 12yo. Her driving licence needs renewing when she's 27. I did point out at the time it's going to be great for ID. 🤣

But your passport expires every 5 years if you got it when under 16 or 10 years if you were over 16. So surely when she is 27 they will use her new passport photo not her 12 year old one?

MargaretThursday · 29/08/2021 16:37

Yes she will use a new photo for her driving licence when she changes it, aged 27yo. She doesn't have a passport currently so it may or may not be a passport one.

But she applied for her provisional licence aged 16yo and ticked the box to say use the passport photo. Her passport was just about to run out.
She then passed her test aged 17yo, and the provisional licence photo was used.
Her licence has to be renewed ever 10years.
So when she is aged 27 (and up to 8 months) she will have a photo on her licence which is a school photo from aged 11yo.

I look like I have just been dug up on mine.

It bears no resemblance to me at all as it was taken 7 years ago; my hair is a completely different colour and I actually look older in that photo than I do IRL

You could probably say my features look the same, but when I show it to friends, they are all WTF is that?

Shirleyphallus · 29/08/2021 16:49

Mine has a questionable shadow above my lip making me look vaguely like Hitler

NigellaSeed · 29/08/2021 16:53

I've since renewed my passport photo, but I just keep ticking the box to keep my drivers photo. Whenever I change address it's free to get a new card with a new address but they charge you if you want to change the photo.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/08/2021 16:58

My husband says about my passport photo "not the best photo of you, it looks like a mugshot taken from when you robbed a launderette" Grin

And his looks like a photo from mingers.com

We don't photograph well...
