To ask for parking fine help

I went to a tourist beauty spot with that automated phone parking. Duly rang up and registered and gave details and got a text saying please confirm Reg to co firm parking session. I did this but I realised later I had a text saying "you did not confirm so no parking session". I did and have photo of the text I sent but now been sent a £100 fine.
I'm on the verge of tears as I cannot afford this and tried to pay in good faith which I'm hoping my text shows. Why would I give credit card info and send a text if I had no intention to pay? I've lodged an appeal but feel really shaky and anxious as I suffer with my head and fret about stuff like this. I know I should have tried to phone somewhere but the number of the machine only had options for new parking sessions and not a help option. Gah!

Don't panic. If you did everything they asked and can prove it they can't fine you. Just follow the appeals process.

As per PP, follow the appeals process. Also check out pepipoo parking forum as it specifically deals with parking issues.

CorrBlimeyGG · 28/08/2021 10:55

As above, follow the appeals process.

It will all get sorted, as long as you don't ignore it.

This group on Facebook is really good. Don’t appeal until you’ve had advice because quite often they can help overturn it.

What parking company was it?

Imnothereforthedrama · 28/08/2021 11:09

Agree with appealing good luck .

Triedtopayandgo · 28/08/2021 11:16

I've appealed stating my intent to pay was clear to see and sent the text I sent sending my registration number
I'll check out the Facebook group. Thanks so much. Mumsnet helps me so much and when there's stuff like this it sees like there's lots of friendly grass snakes amongst the so called vipers. Thank you 🙏

Did you send the text to the correct number?

Appeal in accordance with the procedure detailed on the ticket, make sure you are in the time limit as this will stop the clock running abd you retain the ability to pay the lower sum detailed on the ticket for early payment

Have a read of this (assuming England - if not go on CAB website and enter your country for similar info)

www.citizensadvice.org.uk/law-and-courts/parking-tickets/

If appeal fails there might be a further appeal but you may have to accept that you need to pay this one and chalk it up to experience. If you can’t pay it all in one go speak to them and arrange to pay in instalments. Whatever you do don’t ignore it as the £100 will quickly escalate and get passed to a debt collector which will have a far worse impact

WhatisanODP · 28/08/2021 11:27

Noooooo! Why did you appeal first!?

Triedtopayandgo · 28/08/2021 12:09

I replied to the text they sent asking for my reg so clearly that shows my having phones to pay?

@WhatisanODP I appealed as couldn't see another option other than pay and want to get it sorted

Sign up on the PePiPoo forums and ask for advice. They are a very well versed bunch on there.

Personally I would have asked on there before starting you appeal though.

WhatisanODP · 28/08/2021 13:17

Totally agree with @Welshiefluff

I totally get that you wanted to get it sorted, but you would have had 14 days to get an appeal done, and you’ve now done the appeal without getting proper advice first, which could totally ruin your chances of getting it cancelled.

With Pepipoo and The Facebook group i advised you about there are so many knowledgeable people that can get the squashed at the appeal stage.

It might mean now, that if your appeal fails you’ll be better off paying the reduced fee.

VanCleefArpels · 28/08/2021 14:04

In my experience as a CAB adviser these online resources and “help” forums often give bad advice leading to people ultimately getting CCJ’s against them which they only find out about when applying for credit. OP, please follow the CAB advice as linked above and if necessary negotiate the repayment of the fine if your appeal fails

There's a lot of complaints locally about tickets being issued at Porthpaen Beach, where people haven't got a ticket in time or have failed to enter their reg no on the screen properly. These private companies are ripping people off in many instances
