Carpeting around huge wardrobe

We recently moved into a new house, and the previous owner left some really huge, heavy wardrobes (with our permission) - freestanding, not fitted. We've been here a few months and they really are too big for us, so we're now getting rid of them. DH has taken one down today, and THEY HAD CARPETED AROUND THE BLOODY WARDROBE!!!!! So now there is a massive great hole in the carpet, and we will need to recarpet the room.

I know IAPBU, but who does that?? I see why, but so annoying. Also the skirting board behind the wardrobe is red, just why???

If you see why they did it, why is it so annoying?! I'd have probably done the same. If they knew they'd never be moving the wardrobes while they lived there (and if they left them there with their permission, presumably they thought you wouldn't either?), is it really any different to carpeting around fitted wardrobes?

I would have probably done the same if the wardrobes were to be there permanently and were too heavy to be moved. The same as carpetting around a fitted wardrobe.
But I get why you're annoyed if you didnt expect to see a carpetless patch under them

Mostly annoyed at myself, MsVestibule!! She did say that she would remove them if we wanted, but we agreed that she could leave them. If she'd removed them, I believe she would have had to replace the carpet herself before she moved out! As surely you can't leave a huge hole in the carpet that wasn't evident at the viewings...

I know someone who moved into a house and found they'd carpeted around a bed 🤷‍♀️

Can you get a piece to match OP, fill the gap rather than replace the whole lot?

PerditaMacleod · 27/08/2021 14:59

Might be worth a try @FooFighter99, I do have the seller's number and we've been in touch quite a bit so she might be able to tell me where it was from.
