If you don't intend to call or message anyone back.

What's the point?

For the past 3 or 4 weeks I've been trying to organise getting a few things done.

I've googled

I've read reviews

I've made a decision, only to either have someone come and waste my time and never get back to me about availability despite giving my phone number and email adress.

Or,

Left a message on a voice mail/answering machine as requested on the message on the voicemail/answer machine, and have no one call me back

Have also emailed a couple of people too who specifically say "for more details/ any questions please contact me on- gives email address/phone number "

And again nothing.

If you are no longer taking bookings then say so on the website/face book page.

Leave a message on the voice mail saying " due to high demand we are fully booked until December please call back then,"

Or something.

What's with this non returning calls malarkey.

This is totally pissing me off at the moment. I have a little floating porch thing above the front door. It is falling down, but can I get anyone interested? I have also now been waiting two months for a quote to come through. Also, one tradesperson took two months to do a job that he was going to start "next week." Like you, I just wish they'd be honest and say they're too busy. On the upside I did engage a builder who was fantastic but it still took months instead of weeks - but that's Covid.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/08/2021 09:37

I just need a sodding tree trimmed.

I decided against using the people who cold called at my door who would would it there and then because I wanted to take the time to ensure I wasn't being ripped off and that they were legit.

But no one seems to want the business Hmm

I've had appointments with 3 fencing contractors to come and give me quotes. Only one bothered to turn up.

So I'd say even if you manage to make contact, it might not get you much further.

If you're in Sussex @Whatwouldscullydo, my tree surgeon DSS might be able to help!

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/08/2021 09:42

And yet they have time to respond to tbe reviews Hmm

Ask on social media pages for your local area. If it's a small job companies who invest in websites are likely to want the work.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/08/2021 09:49

Yeah i have that next door app thing so I will have a look later when I get back to see the local recommendations.

One person ( for something else ) I did email.after seeing a local recommendation/ check in on face book.

A.week.later still waiting fir a response Hmm

Infuriating.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/08/2021 10:06

On the flip side I did have a very lovely sounding lady call me back when she said she would. So my oven is going to get done at least. So it is possible.

Does make u wonder who all these 5 star satisfied customers are though... how are these people getting through...

OP posts:
jillandhersprite · 27/08/2021 10:10

5* reviews can be posted by friends and family to support their own...
Tradespeople are having a boom time at the moment - so are just picking off the most profitable jobs. But they won't actively say no - just in case a job falls through.
The good ones don't need to advertise and have long waiting lists.
There are a lot of cowboys entering the market because they can see the ££££

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/08/2021 10:16

U try and be wary of that.

And try to find a happy medium between a really personally based/amateur Internet presence and the ones who have realky professional websites with a gazillion reviews and photos who I worry will be too big fir their boots amd unreliable...

Such a mine field

Same! I'm trying to get a cat flap fitted and no one will get back to me. I have left emails, voicemails etc. Same with some weeding. It's so terribly annoying.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/08/2021 10:55

Thing is I'd totally be ok with a " sorry we aren't taking bookings right now" message set up.

I'd assume theynwere busy, didn't want to make promises they can't keep and we're trying to stop their customers from wasting theor time trying to get hold of them.

But all this ignoring, well you just end up with a list of people you cant use
