To think this shows a shocking lack of governance at Fraser Group?

Article about new Fraser Group head. How is this even possible in a listed company in this day and age? Is it just a coincidence that a 31 year old about to marry Mike Ashley’s daughter is being recommended for a £1m salary and £100m bonus potential (and apparently has already been paid millions), or is he uniquely qualified for the job 🤔. Where is the corporate governance???

If you’re a shareholder, will you be voting to approve this?

Private companies can employ whoever they like

Lockheart · 26/08/2021 11:28

You've missed out the crucial qualifier "but only if he can double the share price before October 2025".

He's not being given this out of hand. But that doesn't make for as good a clickbait headline to whip up ignorant outrage, does it OP.

If I was a shareholder no I wouldn’t vote for this, however it wouldn’t matter because his father in law is the majority shareholder so can outvote everybody else.

I agree that the corporate governance is probably not what it should be or it is an amazing coincidence that son in law is the best person for the top job. So with those concerns I wouldn’t buy shares in it, problem solved.

Ahh good, I heard they were short of a quid or two. It’s nice how they share it out Hmm

mustlovegin · 26/08/2021 11:49

What exactly is bothering you OP?

MassDebate · 26/08/2021 11:55

@Shoxfordian it isn’t a private company.

@Lockheart If you read my post I refer to “bonus potential” so perhaps reserve your “ignorant frothing” insults for someone who deserves it.

@mustlovegin such blatant nepotism in a public company is something which should bother everyone imo!

You sound very angry Op!

MassDebate · 26/08/2021 12:05

Nah, but I am mildly horrified that the Board of Fraser Group seem to lack any real governance. Thankfully I’m not a shareholder so it doesn’t impact on me directly. I don’t support nepotism in public companies though (or generally) so why not call it out?

There is a shocking lack of governance - this has been a loooooong running theme since they listed.

But they keep on making money, so either a) governance matters less than is generally considered or b) the business is efficient that it's uniquely able to be run this haphazardly.

Not that the views of retail shareholders will have an impact here, but no one has bought into this company expecting conventional governance. It would be odd for anyone to expect a 360 now.

LuaDipa · 26/08/2021 12:16

The company is pretty much single-handedly keeping the British High Street afloat. And they are continuing to make money doing so while many other traditional retail offerings are flailing. Nepotism (which exists in every single facet of society) aside, he’s going to have to earn every penny of this money.
