I have not included a picture but this is gross, tmi etc, involves eyes. Time to go if you've just eaten.

During xmas in 2019, so going into the year 2020 I got very ill. It started off with flu symptoms but then seemed to get worse. Doctor is worse than useless and I have white coat syndrome so got nowhere on that front with those two things combined.

The unusual things about it were:

I felt very short of breath, unusually so.

I had a vicious sore throat like beyond anything which I guess could have been tonsillitus it was so bad.

Lumps on the back of my neck, like not around the sides where you might normally get them with flu.

Now for the worst bit.

I've had conjunctivitis before. When this started that's what I thought it would be. It turned into like monster conjunctivitis.

As opposed to a bit of an issue in the morning I was getting up 3-5 times a night because I was in such a state. The amount of (sorry) stuff there was really shocking, much worse on one eye than the other but still really bad.

I had stuff running down my face. At one point when I tried to clean my right (worst) eye up it was basically like someone had cracked an egg on my face. I literally wanted to wretch. I was scooping the stuff away.

One night I gave up trying to sleep and sat up reading the news on my laptop. Clear tears/fluid ran down my face and when I got up there were red lines on my skin where the fluid had sort of...burned me?

Was this an eye infection? Something else?

I am worried it will come back.

I wonder if you had covid? Some people get conjunctivitis with it. We think we had covid at the end of October 2019, but obviously no one had heard of it then.

TimeForTeaAndG · 25/08/2021 19:39

The shortness of breath would make me think it was covid as well.

I know a few folk who had a bout of ridiculously horrendous "flu" in the months before the pandemic really took hold.

@Looubylou I am thinking it might have been. I have never felt so ill tbh. Then other people have it and show no symptoms. Pretty much everyone where I live had a really bad cough around that time, as in noticeably.

@TimeForTeaAndG my DP did say he thought we both had it then. I think partially due to lockdown I didn't get ill at all last xmas (usually always do) and it's just on my mind now, worrying about getting really sick this winter.

This sounds like an allergic reaction to me. I have a similar thing and have a severe cows milk allergy and some nut allergies too. My eye thing doesn’t sound as severe as yours, but the shortness of breathe and the sore throat sound like anaphylaxis mildly and the lumps like a rash. Keep a food diary and go to get he docs.
