AIBU to ask for recommendations for a book on how to read sheet music?

Just as the title says really!

I’m a complete beginner, with absolutely no experience of any kind. Is there a really basic book which will help me get to grips with the theory?

The AB Guide to Music Theory.

I like books for reference (and yes the AB books) but sometimes I find it easier to learn by watching you tube videos. Just wondered if you'd considered that

What instrument for sheet music?

I hadn’t considered YouTube, good idea!

I’d rather not say the instrument because believe it or not, it’s outing I know that sounds utterly absurd but I’ve come by the thing by happenstance and I’ve literally never heard of another person having one in my life.

Apologies - I know that makes me sound like a really annoying wanker, I’d be annoyed at me too.

When I was learning in school, at the very beginning I would write the note above the symbol if that makes sense so that it would make it easier to recognise it.

AB guide to music theory and work through the theory workbooks from grade 1 upwards.

That's ok. My instrument is piano si was going to recommend something. Abrsm theory bokms are good though
