To help The Linda Norgrove Foundation’s campaign to evacuate female staff

The Linda Norgrove Foundation, a charity set up for women and girls, in memory of Linda who died in Afghanistan, is trying to get two Afghan sisters who work for their charity urgently out of Kabul. They are in great danger, not just because they are women, but also because they are from the Hazara ethnic group, often targeted by the Taliban.

They are asking people to email their MP, tweet & share the message.

Copied from their Twitter page below:

We are urgently campaigning to get our female staff evacuated from Kabul, where we fear for their safety.
Please support us:

  • contact your MP
  • spread this message.

Bumping for the morning crowd.

Here is an example - what I have just sent to my MP:

I saw a post this morningg_ asking for help getting two sisters who work for the above charity out of Kabul. They work for a charity helping women and girls in Afghanistan, and are also from an ethnic group targeted by the Taliban. They have given public interviews also about the situation of women there. As such, for several reasons they will be under severe risk of danger should they be left to the Taliban. The charity asked for people to raise the profile of their plight with our MP. I am certain you will be sympathetic to this, and I do hope there is something you will be able to do. These sisters have bravely given their lives to protecting other women. It is now time that we protect them, in their moment of most desperate need.

Many thanks,
Best wishes

But it would be best to get it in the Daily Mail etc and get pressure like with Pen Farthing.

jozipozi31 · 25/08/2021 08:32

The typo wasn't in my email 🙈

ArabellaScott · 25/08/2021 08:42

fab, jozipozi, thanks. Will send something similar.

Yes that’s what I thought. Does anyone know anybody with influence or connections to the media? Sadly, I don’t.

Angus MacNeil is the MP for where the charity is based in the UK. He is speaking to the Home Office about the charity and about Nowzad also. He posted this yesterday, explaining the brick walls they keep meeting;

"Still not clear to many of us as MPs wrestling Home Office to get people out of Afghanistan whether the problem is physical? - number of planes.
Or burecratic? Namely UK Gov sorting UK Gov paperwork?"

The only people that can do more are Conservative cabinet members. Johnson, Raab, Patel...

Also please don't go to the Mail, their readers do not want refugees here. Owen Jones or any of the Guardian or Independent journalists will be more sympathetic.

CorrBlimeyGG · 25/08/2021 09:24

I've just read that Pen Farthing has been permitted to leave the country, along with his animals and staff, on a privately chartered plane. If it's possible to get the correct paperwork, there may be space on the flight for others. The barrier here is paperwork though, the HO are more bothered about forms than people.

Errno · 25/08/2021 09:33

Yes massive media push to help Nowzad. Which is fantastic. Can we help some others?

If anyone with any media or celebrity connections is reading this, please can you help?

@Errno

Good to see the guardian have reported on this.
That's great!
Errno · 25/08/2021 16:04

Still no action apparently from the Home Office though so more support & social media awareness needed.

OP - poster on thread in chat asking for contact details

KateonSkates · 25/08/2021 18:59

Oops x post!

oneglassandpuzzled · 25/08/2021 19:23

Hasn’t come through yet though I imagine now too late for the MP’s secretary tonight anyway.

mygenericusername · 25/08/2021 19:28

Emailing your no will do Jack shit.

Tweeting the White House to ask what Joe is doing about this whole sorry shower will be more effective.

The US needs to be shamed into keeping troops there until everyone that wants to leave has left.

Errno · 26/08/2021 04:05

Hi, sorry I’m away & wasn’t able to log on earlier @oneglassandpuzzled. I’ll PM you the number now.
