To want privacy from my Neighbour?

We have a fence like this (not my pic incase recognized.) Neighbour was not happy when we put it up as says nobody has big fences in their garden Hmm (I don’t know anyone that doesn’t!!).

He is not a friendly neighbour (Moans that the bin lids are put down too loudly when putting rubbish in the bin as a prime example, totally ignoreS you when you say hello a lot of the time) 🙄 so surely he’d prefer the privacy (apparently not).

AIBU to want some privacy? What can I do to stop him staring through? We have bushes but they’re not tall enough to cover it.

The bushes will grow. Until then, squirt him with a hose pipe whenever you see him peeking? Grin

Just ignore and keep planting!

Get the tallest, thickest fence possible (I think the standard is 6 feet in the uk).
Give him the smooth side so it’s harder for thieves to climb into your garden.
Everyone has the tallest fence possible for privacy, he’s just passed off he can’t perv at you with a tall anti-nosy neighbour fence.

He doesn't sound very nice.

Have you seen those fake ivy screen things? You could pop them up to cover the trellis.

Get some leylanddi (evergreen things) if you want to really block him out!

Could you fix some of this to the fence so that in the lattice portion (and in the dips between the panels) there is no where for the neighbour to look into your garden?

Plant Clematis Montana white or pink, get a mature plant and it will quickly cover the fence. Maybe a rambling rose too.

Bamboo in pots?

Iputthetrampintrampoline · 23/08/2021 18:12

A gazebo with sides? Just put side on where he is looking through?

LadyDanburysCane · 23/08/2021 18:22

Everyone has the tallest fence possible for privacy

That’s not actually true. The fence on one side of our garden is only four foot high. High enough that her friendly dog can’t jump over but low enough that we can speak to each other.

The fence on the other side is just over five foot high but that’s fine as they aren’t very nice people.

Notaroadrunner · 23/08/2021 18:26

We have a 6 ft wall on one side and a 6 ft fence on the other. Of course you're entitled to privacy. Just ignore him. I wouldn't even bother to say hello to him anymore.

Get some plastic ivy and thread it through while you wait for some climbers to grow.

Boatintheocean · 24/08/2021 10:15

Plastic ivy coming today!
