Chicken

Besswess88 · 22/08/2021 20:59

I cooked a family sized chicken yesterday and cooled it and deboned it - it’s supposed to feed 5/6 people.

I am going to see if it will feed my whole family (just me) for one week as widely reported here.

I have a fairly small appetite and do not over eat.

I will report back 👍🏻👍🏻🤣🤣

YABU. The chicken is supposed to feed a whole family for one week, not one person on their own. That's cheating, to be frank Grin

ghostyslovesheets · 22/08/2021 21:21

it wont for a week - it's five meals and actually my mum did do this in the 70's 1) roast chicken 2) chicken butties 3) chicken supreme with rice 4) more butties for school, 5) soup!

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/08/2021 21:24

Should really last you 2 weeks.

LavenderPink · 22/08/2021 21:28

Have you eaten any of it yet? Or did you just cook and debone it yesterday?

Yes, made a risotto yesterday which has fed me yesterday and today and made a chicken and avocado sandwich for lunch at work tomorrow and gave both cats a teeny bit of skin 🤣

Yabu, and must be incredibly fat and greedy to even consider eating a whole chicken in a week.
Our family of 4 shared a drumstick today, tomorrow we'll have some leftover meat with a lettuce leaf, and by Friday there will still be enough left for some rancid concoction involving organic quinoa, before making a mouth watering soup with the bones and some healthy foraged shite.

mafted · 22/08/2021 21:34

You should be able to live on it for a month surely as a family of one.

Besswess88 · 22/08/2021 21:35

I should have made broth from the bones - I then them in the bin Confused

That's like 3 days of soup wasted!
Xiaoxiong · 22/08/2021 21:46

No you didn't bin the bones!! Shock Half the MN chicken "meals" come from the bones! Stock makes soup, risotto, pilaf...

To be honest for a family of 4 we manage to get three meals from a chicken - first meal we eat the breasts and legs, second meal we have something that uses the roast chicken scraps like chicken salad sandwiches, and then I boil the bones and use the resulting stock to make risotto for the third meal.

Besswess88 · 22/08/2021 21:48

So your chicken is feeding 12 people?! Shock

DroopyClematis · 22/08/2021 21:53

Have just polished off an 'extra large' chicken.
It's supposed to feed 6-7 people.

We now have 2 legs left over.

We are pigs and do not have much left over fir a curry/pie/ salad.

According to MN I should have soup , for four people for four days, a turkey pie, a curry and enough stock for a year!

As a teenager I always wanted to try what I thought was the very posh sounding ‘deboned chicken/turkey’ I was mispronouncing the ‘deboned’ in my head like it was french perhaps (de-bo-nayed sort of thing, with an accent)
My mother laughed in my face when i asked for it one day I was embarrassed for years !

Livpool · 22/08/2021 21:59

Freeze it and eat over 1-2 months. At least

TrainspottingWelsh · 22/08/2021 21:59

@OldTinHat there's obviously no hope for op, a greedy cheat and a goady fucker to admit on mumsnet to binning the bones Grin

Maybe you just need a very expensive appliance for boiling the bones @Besswess88? I don't like to brag about my disposable income but the £82539 I spent on my insta air nutri bone purifier has saved me a fortune on buying stock. One simply does not cook bones in the traditional poor person manner.
