Family railcard conundrum

PIPERHELLO · 21/08/2021 23:19

Hi all! Does anyone know what happens if your child ends up not travelling with you on a ticket booked using a family railcard?

Booked tickets but now looks like dd will travel separately another day. Im still travelling as a solo adult. Thanks!

They will take your ticket and you'll have to get off the train.

It happened to a friend of mine, he booked the whole journey with the railcard was meeting his dc a few stops away, and they kicked him off the train and he had to get another ticket.

Fairly sure you need a child with you for the discounted tickets to be valid

NannyR · 21/08/2021 23:23

You have to travel with a child for the discount to apply.

Some of the conductors are really mean.
I would try and get a refund and buy a new ticket or you might get fined.

Darbs76 · 21/08/2021 23:41

You can be charged the extra

Yes, I used to drop my kids at school via train. Had to buy seperate tickets for each leg of the journey for when the kids weren't with me

Children have to be with the adults on the same journey otherwise the tickets are invalid.
Equally the whole group has to travel together so 1 adult and 1 child cannot travel separately to another adult and child on the same railcard.
